Hospitality where the day is the product.

The type began in the 1930s, on rock, and it began without sand. Da Luigi ai Faraglioni opened at Capri in 1936, La Fontelina on the same shore in 1949, La Guérite off Cannes earlier still. Three of the four founding houses have no beach at all: they are platforms bolted to rock where a road cannot reach. Pampelonne, which everyone cites as the origin, is the outlier and the latest.

So the first invention here is a place, and exclusivity was its by-product rather than its design — you could not drive there. The second invention is a model, and it is dated: Blue Marlin at Cala Jondal in 2006 priced and reserved the sand by the table, and every house in this chapter now runs that mechanism, including the ones built seventy years earlier.

The unit sold is a day — arrival, lunch, music, sunset, departure — and the lounger, not the bed, is the inventory. Café del Mar added the fourth thing in 1980 by making the sunset a programmed event rather than a view that happens to be there.

LHL-S-163Café del MarSan Antonio, Ibiza, 20 June 1980 — Ramón Guiral, Carlos Andrea and José Les, in a room by the architect Lluís Güell built to face the sunset. The house that invented the sunset as a programmed event. José Padilla took the residency in 1991 and curated the evening as a sequence; customers asked for copies, the bar sold cassettes, and in 1994 Padilla compiled Café del Mar Volumen Unothe record that created chillout as a commercial genre. Padilla compiled volumes one to six to 1999; some nine million albums sold. Padilla died 18 October 2020. Now a bar brand with houses beyond Ibiza, including Cartagena de IndiasVerified
Notes on the series. Hotel-native institutions enter as cross-references inside the article of the house that holds them, not as separate codes — a bar or spa receives its own entry only when it has become a name in its own right. Seasonal and fashion collaborations are recorded as dated lines within a house, never as entries. Residential clinics and estates, however wellness-led, belong to the main register: they sell nights. Entries carry permanent LHL-S codes once published; drafts await verification by two independent sources. · Published by LVXVRY under Editorial Manifesto LHL-001 v1.6.
