Shell Beach is a cove of broken shells below Gustavia. Shellona put Greek-Mediterranean cooking on it, and in doing so completed a circuit that runs from Mykonos to the Caribbean and into the mountains.
2 · Why it matters
The house is evidence of something the Library has been tracking across this section: the Greek beach club has become an exportable cuisine and manner, in the way that Italian trattoria cooking did in the twentieth century.
Saint Barth is the strongest possible test market — an island with three houses of the main register on it and a clientele that arrives with expectations formed in the Mediterranean. That the format works there, and then works again in an Alpine winter resort ⚑, says the grammar is genuinely portable.
3 · Signature & ritual
Loungers on shells rather than sand, Greek seafood cooking, an afternoon that builds slowly, and a season defined by the yachts in Gustavia harbour.
4 · What this house does not solve
Saint Barth's season is short and hurricane-exposed; a house on an open cove carries physical risk that Mediterranean competitors do not.
The Greek-Mediterranean formula is now common enough to be a category rather than a signature; houses inside it compete on execution and clientele, not on idea.
And an island this small has a fixed number of guests: growth is a zero-sum contest with the hotel restaurants of the very houses it lists as neighbours.
