2 · Why it matters
The Library records the pair rather than choosing between them, because together they describe a type that survives nowhere else at this quality: the Mediterranean bathing establishment, family-run, unamplified, unchanged in structure since the mid twentieth century.

3 · Signature & ritual
Terraces on rock, umbrellas in rows, a lunch of Caprese cooking, and a boat service that functions as the front door. The signature is the absence of anything else.
4 · What this house does not solve
A preserved form is also a frozen one. Houses of this kind depend on a family remaining willing; there is no institutional structure to carry them if a generation declines.
Seasonality is absolute and the season is short. Capri empties, and the house closes with it.
And proximity to a more famous neighbour is a permanent condition: the two houses are compared constantly, which flatters the category and flattens the differences between them.
