Part

Nightlife and social hospitality authors — the people who programmed the room, the hour and the night.

This is the group of first instances. Its members did not enter an existing category and improve it; they produced a category that had no name until they built it, and which others then reproduced until it looked inevitable.

The test is reproduction, not scale or fame. César Ritz standardised what a grand hotel does at the moment there was no standard. Adrian Zecha replaced the resort with the small pavilion property. Dave Varty and Luke Bailes turned the safari camp into a hospitality product. Georges Nagelmackers put a hotel on rails. Each answered a question nobody had yet framed, and each answer became a template.

Because the group is defined by invention rather than by ownership, it is the most heterogeneous in the Part. It holds hoteliers and railway financiers, a chef, a tyre manufacturer's two sons, casino developers and conservationists. What they share is priority in time and consequence in practice.

What the group does not settle: priority is easier to assert than to prove, and invention is rarely solitary. Where a category has several plausible originators, the entry states the competing claim rather than resolving it by preference.

Notes on the register. Seven groups follow the model, never the era: the axis is whose capital and whose authorship. Paired entries carry one code where authorship is genuinely joint. A closed record marks a life concluded — the code and the history stand (§11). One candidacy is suspended under §18.4.1 while its subject holds public office, its brand anchor already resident in the register. Reigning heads of state receive no entries; documented authorship is recorded in the Key People line of the house concerned.
