1 · POSITION

Born in Pittsburgh, raised in South Carolina, a Columbia political science graduate who hoped to write. A friend suggested nightclub promotion for extra money. He co-founded Spa, Butter, 1OAK and The Darby, defining early-2000s Manhattan nightlife through exclusive door policies, and in October 2020 opened Zero Bond. He runs seven venues through Bond Hospitality and sits on the board of the Metropolitan Museum.

2 · ⚑ WHAT HE ACTUALLY CHANGED

The 1OAK model sold access at the door, one night at a time. Zero Bond sells it by the year, decided by a committee, and forbids photographs — the same commodity converted from a nightly transaction into a subscription with an information policy attached. That is the significant move, and the register holds him for it rather than for the celebrity list.

3 · HIS OWN TEST

He says he asks of every venue whether it is a place his closest friends and his wife would want to spend time, week after week — and that the answer determines as much as the data and the market research. The Library records it because it is the same test every owner-creator in Part IX describes in different words.

4 · WHAT THIS MODEL DOES NOT SOLVE

A club built on the mix depends on one man's judgement of what the mix is, which does not transfer and cannot be audited. The Hamptons outpost closed. And a room that bans cameras while appearing constantly in the press is selling something other than privacy, which the Library states plainly on the club's own entry.
