Katikies began in 1988 with a small cluster of whitewashed suites carved into the Oia caldera cliff, and grew into the defining luxury hotel collection of Santorini. Its houses — Katikies Santorini, Katikies Kirini, Katikies Chromata, Katikies Villas and Katikies Garden in Fira — occupy the island's most photographed positions, while Katikies Mykonos extends the brand to a second Cycladic island. By August 2026 the collection operates six properties, all Greek, all built around the caldera aesthetic that the brand helped make world-famous.
The brand
Katikies is a Greek family collection concentrated almost entirely on Santorini. Its properties share the Cycladic vocabulary — white volumes, terraces, infinity pools suspended over the caldera — and an adults-oriented, honeymoon-heavy guest profile. All houses are members of The Leading Hotels of the World.
The portfolio is layered by position: Katikies Santorini and Kirini on the Oia cliff, Chromata and the Villas in Imerovigli, Katikies Garden in a former monastery in Fira, and the Mykonos resort at Agios Ioannis with sunset views toward Delos. The collection does not chase geographic spread; it deepens its hold on one island's luxury market.
Brand philosophy
Katikies treats the caldera view as the organising principle of hospitality. Architecture exists to frame the sea and sunset; suites, terraces and pools are arranged as private viewing platforms. The service style is warm, personal and discreet rather than ceremonial, in keeping with the small scale of each house.
Romance is the second principle. The collection is explicitly couple-oriented: adults-focused houses, champagne rituals, private dining on terraces and an atmosphere calibrated for honeymoons and anniversaries. The brand accepts the trade-off — it does not try to be a family or activity product.
What distinguishes it
The caldera is the brand. Katikies' identity is inseparable from cliff-edge Oia and Imerovigli positions that cannot be replicated or expanded.
Depth on one island. Five properties on Santorini give the collection market depth no international brand matches there.
Adults-first by design. The couple orientation is structural, not incidental — the product is engineered for romance.
LHW membership across the collection. Leading Hotels affiliation provides the international quality signal and Leaders Club recognition.
A monastery in Fira. Katikies Garden shows the brand can hold its identity in a historic building away from the cliff edge.
Katikies is a weak fit for families with children, travellers seeking large-resort facilities or guests who dislike steep terrain and stairs — the caldera houses are vertical by nature. It is also not for those seeking Greek island seclusion: Oia and Imerovigli are among the busiest luxury destinations in the Mediterranean in season. The product is romance, view and Cycladic polish, not privacy from the world.
