Excellence Group

Excellence Group — now consumer-facing as The Excellence Collection — is a family-owned and operated Caribbean all-inclusive resort group built around three distinct brands: Excellence Resorts, Finest Resorts and Beloved Hotels.

Position

Excellence Group — now consumer-facing as The Excellence Collection — is a family-owned and operated Caribbean all-inclusive resort group built around three distinct brands: Excellence Resorts, Finest Resorts and Beloved Hotels. Unlike the highly asset-light global franchisors elsewhere in Part II, the company explicitly describes itself as both hotel manager and worldwide real-estate developer and says it owns and manages its resort properties.

Register position

LHL-477 · P2-28-04 · Part II — Corporate Luxury & Lifestyle Portfolios. The current LHL group file assigns three brands: LHL-432 Excellence Resorts, LHL-433 Finest Resorts and LHL-434 Beloved Hotels.

Name evolution

The group historically operated as Excellence Group Luxury Hotels & Resorts and publicly rebranded its consumer portfolio as The Excellence Collection in April 2019.

Why the name matters

The 2019 rebrand created a cleaner umbrella above three differentiated resort propositions rather than treating Excellence Resorts as the name of the entire business.

Current umbrella

The Excellence Collection is the current guest-facing umbrella used across the three brands, shared reservations, loyalty, travel-advisor resources and direct-booking infrastructure.

Legal web entity

The current website terms identify MARENA INTRACORP B.V. INC as the owner of The Excellence Collection website and state that it operates as an authorized branch in Panama.

Payment entity

The current legal terms separately identify Marena Collections LLC in Florida as the payment-processing company.

Why legal layers matter

The consumer umbrella, hotel ownership/development interests, web entity and payment processor are not necessarily the same legal person. The Library should preserve that distinction rather than treating 'Excellence Group' as one universal company name.

Family ownership

The Excellence Collection's own About page calls the business family-owned and family-operated.

Joint-investment origin

The same primary source says the resort collection is a joint investment between Medieval Times, Zafiro Hotels and Viva Hotels.

Why this is unusual

The group therefore grew from the pooled experience of several family businesses in hotels, construction, real-estate development and entertainment rather than from a single hotel-chain founder.

Medieval Times contribution

The Excellence Collection describes MT Group as an international group active in hotels, real-estate development and entertainment, including Medieval Times dinner-show castles in the United States and Canada.

Prinsotel connection

The same corporate history places the Prinsotel hotel company in Mallorca and Menorca within the MT Group context.

Captain Hook connection

The MT Group history also includes Captain Hook Galleons in Cancún, showing a tourism-and-entertainment operating background beyond hotels.

Viva Hotels contribution

The Excellence Collection says Viva Hotels & Resorts Group brought more than 25 years of construction, development and hotel experience.

Zafiro succession

Its current About page says the Zafiro Hotels name was adopted in 2017 when the Viva Hotels & Resorts Group was reorganized and control passed to the family's next generation under owner Bartomeu Plomer.

Why family genealogy is complicated

The Excellence Collection is better described as a joint family investment platform than as the creation of one simple surname dynasty. The primary source names the participating businesses more clearly than it maps every individual family shareholder.

No invented founder

The master therefore does not invent one sole founder of Excellence Group where the company's own current history emphasizes joint investment.

Beginning

The Excellence Collection's 25th-anniversary history dates the resort story to 2000.

First resort

Excellence Punta Cana opened in 2000 as the group's first resort and the first Excellence Resorts property.

Punta Cana claim

The company's anniversary history also describes Excellence Punta Cana as the first property to be built in Punta Cana; this is retained as the company's own historical claim rather than generalized beyond the source.

Excellence Resorts

Excellence Resorts became the adults-only all-inclusive brand and remains the largest of the three current brand families.

Mexico

Excellence Riviera Cancun opened in 2004, marking the group's first Mexican resort.

Playa Mujeres

Excellence Playa Mujeres opened in 2007 and became one of the defining properties of the adults-only brand.

Beloved origin

The property now known as Beloved Playa Mujeres began in 2009 as La Amada Hotel and originally operated as an all-ages resort.

Beloved evolution

The company's own anniversary history says the property became adults-only in 2016 and later evolved further into a couples-only concept.

Why Beloved matters

Beloved demonstrates brand creation by repositioning an existing house rather than by building a completely separate portfolio from day one.

Beloved scale

The current umbrella site presents Beloved as a one-hotel brand centered on Beloved Playa Mujeres.

Finest launch

Finest Resorts began with Finest Playa Mujeres in 2015.

Why Finest exists

The company says Finest was created because the existing portfolio lacked a proposition for families and guests of all ages.

Dual audience

Finest combines all-ages resort facilities with adults-only zones, allowing the group to capture family demand without changing the adults-only promise of Excellence Resorts.

Excellence El Carmen

Excellence El Carmen opened in Punta Cana in 2016, expanding the Dominican Republic adults-only portfolio.

Jamaica

Excellence Oyster Bay opened in Jamaica in 2018 after the group acquired a secluded peninsula near Montego Bay.

Why the Jamaica wording matters

The company's own history explicitly says it acquired the peninsula and built the resort, providing direct evidence of real-estate development rather than only management.

2019 rebrand

On 15 April 2019 Excellence Group Luxury Hotels & Resorts announced the transition to The Excellence Collection.

Three-brand architecture

The 2019 announcement defined the new umbrella around Excellence Resorts, Beloved Hotels and Finest Resorts.

Finest Punta Cana

Finest Punta Cana opened in 2021 after a development period affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Excellence Coral

Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres opened on 12 February 2025 as the group's newest adults-only Excellence resort.

Current operating portfolio

The current Excellence Collection site lists ten resorts across the three brands.

Current Excellence count

The current umbrella site lists six Excellence Resorts.

Current Finest count

The current umbrella site lists three Finest Resorts.

Current Beloved count

The current umbrella site lists one Beloved hotel.

Why counts are clear here

Unlike many large global groups, the current portfolio can be reconciled directly from the official umbrella site: 6 + 3 + 1 = 10 operating resorts.

Geography

The current portfolio is concentrated in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Caribbean concentration

The group's specialization is therefore geographically narrow compared with global chains but operationally deep in Caribbean all-inclusive resort hospitality.

Owns and manages

The Excellence Collection's current About page explicitly says the company owns and manages upscale resort properties in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica.

Real-estate development

The same primary source describes the group as specialized in hotel management and worldwide real-estate development.

Why this differs from Marriott/IHG

The corporate model is materially closer to owner-developer-operator hospitality than to a pure management/franchise system.

Ownership caution

Even with the group's own broad statement that it owns and manages its resorts, property-level title and local owning entities should still be verified before assigning legal ownership of a specific parcel.

All-inclusive specialization

All three brands are built around high-end all-inclusive resort economics rather than conventional room-only luxury hospitality.

Excellence proposition

Excellence Resorts is adults-only and uses the phrase Infinite Excellence, for Adults.

Finest proposition

Finest Resorts is all-ages and uses Infinite Excellence, for You to Share.

Beloved proposition

Beloved Hotels is couples-only and uses Infinite Excellence, Exclusively for Two.

Why segmentation works

The group changes target guest and resort programming while retaining shared standards in suites, food and beverage, wellness, service and all-inclusive inclusions.

Shared values

The current corporate site defines three common values: Innovative Curation, Bespoke Service and Extraordinary Moments.

Infinite Excellence

Infinite Excellence functions as the shared corporate experience language connecting the three brands.

Culinary system

The group emphasizes dining, mixology and premium inclusions as central to its interpretation of luxury all-inclusive.

Wellness system

Each brand carries a distinct spa identity: Miilé Spa at Excellence Resorts, ONE Spa at Finest Resorts and The Beloved Spa at Beloved Hotels.

Why spa differentiation matters

The company centralizes wellness expertise while preserving different guest-facing brand identities.

Direct distribution

The three brands share The Excellence Collection's direct-booking ecosystem, reservation management and travel-professional resources.

Best-rate architecture

Official direct-booking terms treat Excellence, Finest and Beloved hotels as eligible properties within one shared commercial system.

In-house transportation

Excellence Resorts' direct-booking benefits identify Seasons Tours as a trusted in-house transportation agency, showing vertical integration beyond hotel rooms.

Loyalty

The Excellence Collection Rewards now operates across the collection and offers cross-property benefits.

Why loyalty belongs at group level

A shared rewards platform creates a relationship with the parent collection rather than only with one individual resort.

Travel advisors

The group runs a shared travel-professional affiliate portal with commissions, training tools, property fact sheets and group resources.

Corporate social responsibility

The umbrella site presents social responsibility and environmental commitment as group-level goals.

EarthCheck

Individual Excellence resorts currently display EarthCheck certifications, but property-level certification should not be generalized automatically to every resort.

Human capital

The company's About page explicitly identifies employee satisfaction and wellbeing as corporate goals and describes service delivery as a family-like team culture.

Service as operating moat

Because the company does not primarily sell franchise flags to unrelated operators, consistency of service is tied more directly to its own operating organization.

Development risk

Owner-developer exposure also means the group bears more direct development, construction, destination and capital risk than a pure fee-based franchisor.

Geographic risk

Concentration in hurricane-exposed Caribbean and Mexican coastal destinations creates climate and destination-cycle exposure.

All-inclusive risk

The three brands diversify guest segments but remain concentrated in one broad all-inclusive leisure model.

Brand cannibalization risk

Excellence, Finest and Beloved must remain sufficiently distinct that the three propositions do not collapse into one resort product differentiated only by age policy.

Beloved concentration risk

Beloved is currently a one-property brand, making its brand identity unusually dependent on a single house.

Family governance

Family ownership can support long-term capital and operating consistency but makes shareholder and succession structure more important to corporate continuity.

Family-source caution

⚑ The company's current About page explains the three investing business groups more clearly than it identifies every beneficial owner or family percentage. This master does not invent ownership shares.

Name caution

⚑ LHL-477 is titled Excellence Group, while the consumer-facing company has used The Excellence Collection since 2019. Both names belong in the record: Excellence Group for historical/register continuity, The Excellence Collection for current public identity.

Legal-entity caution

⚑ MARENA INTRACORP B.V. INC is identified in current site terms as owner of the website and branch office in Panama; this does not by itself prove it is the ultimate holding company for every resort asset.

Portfolio-count caution

⚑ Current official pages list ten operating resorts. Future openings, closures or rebrandings will change the 6/3/1 count.

Excellence naming caution

⚑ Current web pages sometimes use 'Excellence Carmen Punta Cana' while the 25-year history and established property identity use Excellence El Carmen. Naming changes should be checked before rewriting the house record.

Ownership caution

⚑ The group's broad claim that it owns and manages its properties is strong first-party evidence of an owner-operator model, but specific land and hotel-owning entities remain property-level facts.

What this entry does not establish

This master does not establish the exact shareholding percentages among Medieval Times/MT Group, Zafiro/Viva interests, nor the local legal title of each resort. Those require corporate and property documents beyond the public brand history.

Profile

Excellence Group / The Excellence Collection · LHL-477 · P2-28-04. Family-owned and operated Caribbean all-inclusive owner-developer-manager. Current brands: Excellence Resorts, Finest Resorts and Beloved Hotels. Current official portfolio: ten resorts — six Excellence, three Finest and one Beloved — in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Corporate origin: joint investment involving Medieval Times/MT Group, Zafiro Hotels and Viva Hotels.

Conclusion

The Excellence Collection is a useful counterweight to the asset-light groups elsewhere in Part II. It did not build its three brands mainly by licensing names onto unrelated owners' hotels; its own history describes a family investment platform that develops, owns and manages Caribbean resorts. Excellence Resorts established adults-only luxury, Finest added families without breaking that promise, and Beloved narrowed the proposition to couples. The 2019 umbrella rebrand simply made the architecture explicit: three brands, one operating culture, one development platform and one family-controlled collection.
