Finest Resorts

Finest Resorts is the all-ages luxury all-inclusive brand within The Excellence Collection. It was designed to solve a problem created by the success of its adults-only sister brand: guests who valued an upscale, inclusive Caribbean resort could not necessarily return with their children. Finest offered a way to preserve a substantial part of the parent company's resort product while accommodating families, couples and multigenerational groups in the same property.

The Family Behind the Collection

The Excellence Collection describes itself as a family-owned and operated resort company and a joint investment between Medieval Times, Zafiro Hotels and Viva Hotels. These corporate interests bring together entertainment, property development and hotel operations. The group originally developed Excellence Resorts, whose first property opened in Punta Cana in 2000. Its later brands should be read as deliberate differences in guest composition rather than three names for identical resorts.

The Limits of Adults-Only Success

An adults-only hotel can generate loyalty among couples while excluding those same travellers when their circumstances change. This is a structural limit of the model, not necessarily a weakness in the service. The company's own anniversary history says it had no suitable product for families and guests of all ages. Finest was created to address that gap without abandoning the group's premium all-inclusive proposition.

The Brand Announcement of 2014

On 2 April 2014 Excellence Group publicly announced Finest Resorts as a third brand. The contemporaneous release stated that Finest would accommodate guests of all ages, including couples, families and mid-size groups, and that Finest Playa Mujeres would be its first property. The date matters: 2014 is the documented brand announcement, while the actual hotel opened in 2015. LHL should not merge those events.

Finest Playa Mujeres, 2015

Finest Playa Mujeres opened in February 2015 on the coast north of Cancún. Contemporary corporate publicity described 450 suites, numerous restaurants and bars, extensive pools and a full-service children's club. The point was not merely to attach a kids' club to an existing adults-only property. The hotel was planned around simultaneous forms of holiday: family activity and quieter adult retreat.

A Resort with Two Rhythms

The brand's most distinctive feature is its internal division of experience. Children and parents can share pools, dining and recreational spaces, while adults retain access to designated quieter areas. This is not the same as a separate adults-only hotel. Finest attempts to reconcile different holiday rhythms within one resort, making circulation, zoning and amenity placement unusually important.

The Architecture of Inclusion

The design problem is spatial as much as operational. Family suites require privacy between adults and children; children's pools and clubs need safe access and appropriate supervision; adults-only areas need enough separation to offer genuine quiet. A large all-inclusive property can contain these experiences, but their coexistence depends on thoughtful planning. Individual architects and design teams should be identified from project documentation rather than attributed without evidence.

Suites for Different Households

The original Finest Playa Mujeres product included family suites with separate bedrooms alongside romantic and private-pool accommodation. That range is integral to the brand. Multigenerational travel is not adequately served by simply placing extra beds in standard rooms. The resort must accommodate different sleeping arrangements, shared time and independent space.

Finest Club

Finest Club is an upgraded accommodation and service tier that welcomes families and guests of all ages. Its role is to offer a differentiated experience inside the broader all-inclusive resort through designated amenities and privileges. The precise inclusions depend on the property and current booking terms. It is not a standalone hotel brand or an external private-membership organisation.

Excellence Club Inside Finest

Finest also offers an Excellence Club proposition for adults. This creates a distinctive internal architecture: the all-ages Finest Club and the adults-oriented Excellence Club coexist under the same resort brand. The 2015 corporate announcement explicitly distinguished the two. This is stronger evidence of the original model than a later general claim that Finest offers something for everyone.

Food and the All-Inclusive Promise

Multiple restaurants and bars allow a family to remain within the resort while choosing different dining experiences across a week. The premium challenge is not the quantity of outlets alone but their service, consistency and flexibility. Adult-oriented dining and family dining may serve different needs; chefs and individual restaurant histories should be investigated at property level before receiving satellite records.

The Children's World

Kids' clubs, water-play facilities and age-appropriate activities are structural elements of Finest rather than peripheral entertainment. Their purpose is partly to give children a meaningful holiday and partly to give adults time of their own. This mutual independence is one of the brand's core propositions.

Adults Without Children

The brand is not reserved for families. Couples and groups without children can book Finest and use designated adults-only areas. This matters for classification: Finest is all-ages, not exclusively a family resort. The marketing proposition seeks to avoid forcing travellers into a binary choice between children's facilities and adult tranquillity.

Wellness and ONE Spa

The spa, fitness and hydrotherapy offerings extend the resort's programme beyond pools and dining. They contribute to the premium positioning but do not make Finest a wellness brand. Specific treatments and branded facilities can change between hotels; LHL should record them at the appropriate property or spa-satellite level.

The Move to Punta Cana

Finest Punta Cana opened in 2021, extending the brand from Mexico to the Dominican Republic. A collection brochure dated the planned opening to 1 October 2021; the parent company's anniversary history confirms the year. The opening took place during the period of COVID-related travel restrictions and operating protocols, which affected the launch environment.

A Second Property, Not a Replica

The Dominican Republic property applied the all-ages and adults-only zoning principle to another Caribbean site. Its contemporary resort architecture, suite mix, dining and children's amenities should be assessed individually. The brand's success depends on reproducing the service logic, not on making the second hotel architecturally identical to Playa Mujeres.

The Riviera Cancun Addition

The current official Finest Resorts website lists Finest Riviera Cancun alongside Playa Mujeres and Punta Cana. The resort's presence in the operating portfolio is supported by the current brand listing. Its opening date is not established by the historical sources used here and should not be inferred from the absence of the property in the 2025 anniversary chronology.

A Three-Property Portfolio

At the research date the official Finest website lists three resorts: Finest Playa Mujeres and Finest Riviera Cancun in Mexico, and Finest Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This is a dated portfolio snapshot, not a permanent total. The parent company's 2025 anniversary page records earlier milestones and does not, by itself, establish the opening chronology of every property currently advertised.

The Brand's Own Language

The Excellence Collection describes Finest through the idea that luxury should be shared across ages, while leaving room for quiet adult experiences. This is corporate positioning. The historical evidence for the model lies in the 2014 announcement and the 2015 opening product, which documented separate club tiers, family accommodation and children's facilities.

The Relationship to Excellence Resorts

Excellence Resorts remains the adults-only branch of the collection. Finest borrowed the parent company's all-inclusive operating model while changing the audience and spatial programme. That difference warrants a separate LHL brand card even though the two share corporate ownership and service vocabulary.

The Relationship to Beloved Hotels

Beloved Hotels occupies a more intimate, couples-only position. Together the three brands create a segmentation system: adults-only at Excellence, all-ages at Finest, couples-only at Beloved. The system is more revealing than any one resort's marketing language, because it shows how the company differentiated guest needs without leaving the Caribbean all-inclusive market.

The Place of Playa Mujeres

The opening of Finest at Playa Mujeres added another expression of the collection to a destination where the parent already operated resorts. That clustering has commercial advantages in development, recruitment and distribution, but the exact shared-service or ownership arrangements should not be inferred without corporate evidence.

Service and the Human Factor

The parent collection places emphasis on attentive service, empathy, teamwork and employee wellbeing. The all-ages Finest model places additional demands on service teams because children, couples and larger families need different forms of attention. These are operating implications of the concept, not independent proof that every guest receives the same standard.

Loyalty and Direct Recognition

The Excellence Collection now advertises a rewards programme spanning its properties. It should be distinguished from Finest Club and Excellence Club, which are room-category service tiers. Loyalty benefits, direct-booking privileges and eligibility rules should be checked from current programme terms before being described as fixed entitlements.

People and Authorship

The current corporate sources establish the brand announcement and property history but do not identify a single verified creative founder of Finest. A historical marketing release quotes Alejandro Lazcano as Marketing Director of Excellence Group in 2015; that establishes a contemporary corporate voice, not authorship of the brand. Further People nominations should focus on those who demonstrably created the concept, architecture or operating system, not merely executives who held office.

LHL Classification and Cross-Links

Primary classification: Part II · Excellence Group / The Excellence Collection. Related brand records: LHL-432 Excellence Resorts and LHL-434 Beloved Hotels. The parent company should retain a separate corporate record. Each Finest resort deserves its own house record where the register supports it, and significant restaurants, spas or other venues may be considered for satellite records after individual research.

What Finest Changed

Finest did not invent family-friendly all-inclusive resorts, and the available evidence does not establish that other companies copied its precise format. Its more defensible contribution is internal to The Excellence Collection: it converted an adults-only group's operating experience into a resort designed for mixed-age parties without eliminating adult privacy. The result is a distinct brand proposition, not a claim to have created the entire category.

Editorial note — The source record establishes the 2014 announcement, 2015 first opening and 2021 Punta Cana opening. The current official site lists Finest Riviera Cancun, but the sources used here do not establish its precise opening date. Contemporary room, pool, restaurant and club counts are dated snapshots, not immutable specifications. The parent company's statements about luxury and service are corporate positioning. The reviewed evidence does not identify the full creative team, beneficial owners or original architects, and it does not prove that competing hotel groups copied Finest's particular zoning model.
