Casino du Liban opened at Maameltein on 17 December 1959, on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. Gaming shared the address with dining and staged entertainment. Its hospitality significance lies in that combination: the casino was a destination for an entire evening, with several reasons to arrive and different ways of spending time once inside. [1]
2 · THE PERFORMING ROOM
The Salle des Ambassadeurs became closely associated with elaborate revues. The operator's history identifies Charlie Henchis with its shows from 1961; later reporting describes the hall's place in Lebanese entertainment culture. Such performances required more than a stage: the audience, table service and carefully arranged room formed part of the occasion. [1, 2]
3 · INTERRUPTED CONTINUITY
The civil war broke that operating rhythm. The casino's account describes intermittent closures after 1975, severe damage and complete cessation in 1989, followed by reopening on 4 December 1996. Its history is therefore one of interruption and reconstruction. The postwar establishment inherited a name and a cultural memory while having to rebuild the conditions for receiving guests. [1]
4 · DINING BEYOND GAMING
La Martingale's published offer combines Mediterranean and international cooking with entertainment and a seasonal terrace facing Jounieh Bay. The restaurant is advertised without a membership requirement. This gives the complex a dining identity that can be approached separately from play, preserving the broader relationship between the casino, the coastline and an evening out. [3]
