A doctor-guided protocol for cleansing the digestive system, run at Lanserhof among other houses, in three stages: fasting on tea and water; a purge with Epsom salts; then eating again, at first on a radically restricted diet, while relearning how to eat — thirty to forty chews for each small mouthful.
2 · Why it is in the Library
It is the clearest case of a method outliving and outranking any house that offers it. Guests book the Cure and then choose where to take it, which reverses the ordinary relationship between a protocol and a property, and is the reason this group exists. It also fails the usual definition of luxury hospitality completely: the guest pays a great deal to be hungry, and that inversion is what the entry records.
3 · Candour
⚑ Franz Xaver Mayr, the physician the cure is named for, is not in the Library, and the founding history of the method was not established here. The Library records the protocol as practised and takes no view on its clinical claims. Prolonged fasting is a medical undertaking; the entry describes what houses offer and does not recommend it.
