Lanserhof runs residential medical clinics in Austria and Germany, recorded in the main register because they sell nights. In 2019 it opened something different in London: a clinic occupying several floors of a private members' club, sold as membership.
2 · Why it matters
This is the cleanest illustration of the rule that governs Part X. The Lanserhof houses on the Tegernsee and at Lech sell a stay, so they are in the main register. The London operation sells access, so it is here — same brand, same medicine, different unit of sale.
It is also a genuinely new hospitality form: diagnostics, physiotherapy, dentistry and training inside a club whose other floors serve dinner. Wellness has been moving toward membership for a decade; this is the highest-specification version of the idea.
3 · Signature & ritual
Medical diagnostics and the Mayr-derived programme delivered in an urban club setting, over floors that also contain gyms, treatment rooms and consulting suites.
4 · What this house does not solve
A clinic without beds cannot deliver the residential programme that made the brand: the London operation is an intensive outpatient service carrying a residential reputation.
Membership pricing excludes by design and ties the medical offer to a social institution — a combination that is difficult to defend on clinical grounds.
And two very different cultures share one address: a club exists to be enjoyable and a clinic to be disciplined, and the guest chooses which one they came for on any given day.
