Alexander Vik’s mother was Uruguayan; he had never been to the country until he took his first child to meet his grandmother, who still lived there. The couple bought a beach house, then went looking for a ranch, and found the land on a lagoon that became Estancia Vik at José Ignacio. Playa Vik followed with the architect Carlos Ott, Bahia Vik and Estancia with Marcelo Daglio, then Vik Chile and Puro Vik on 11,000 acres in the Millahue Valley with a winery by Smiljan Radić, and Galleria Vik Milano in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.
2 · ⚑ WHY HE IS IN THE LIBRARY
The houses were meant to be his own. He and Carrie built them as private residences and opened them only when the projects outgrew that intention — *we decided to make it much bigger and share it with the world.* Almost every other figure in Part IX set out to build a hotel. He set out to build somewhere to live, and the register holds the distinction because it shows in the buildings.
3 · WHAT HE DOES NOT DELEGATE
He and Carrie design and curate every room across all the properties themselves, working with individual artists on site-specific work. That is authorship at room level, and it does not scale — which is why there are six retreats and not sixty.

Dates of birth, his business career outside hospitality, and the ownership structure of the group are not established here. The vineyard’s awards are the company’s own claim.
