An HEC graduate who became convinced that traditional medicine had something to teach beauty, Poiroux travelled with his wife across China, India, Japan, Siam and Morocco, gathering rituals, massages and formulations. He returned at the end of 2000 and had the products, the website and a 500-square-metre spa open within a year.
2 · WHY HE IS IN THE LIBRARY
Because he built the transferable version. Every other author in Part IX built a house or a practice; Poiroux built a protocol and licensed it, and it now runs in more than a thousand spas he does not own. He also worked with scientists on a patented needleless acupuncture technique, which is the same instinct — turning something learned into something that can be taught.
3 · ⚑ WHAT THIS MODEL DOES NOT SOLVE
A ritual performed in Marrakech by someone raised in it and a ritual performed in Brussels by someone trained to a manual are not the same event, whatever the treatment list says. Poiroux is explicit that he sought authenticity and worked with practitioners, and the Library records that; it also records that the phrase *Rituels de Beauté du Monde* is trademarked, and that the objection to collecting other cultures’ practices as a premium brand is not answered by good intentions.
