From Salardú in the Val d’Aran, she and Maria left in the mid-1930s fleeing war and poverty, opened a salon in Toulouse on talent alone, and moved to Paris in 1943 to take the capital of fashion. Their house on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré led Europe from 1950 to 1970.
2 · WHY SHE IS IN THE LIBRARY
The sisters are recorded as the first salon to understand that behind the hair there is a face, a look, a woman — the appearance composed as a whole rather than a service delivered. Alexandre worked with them before he worked for himself, which places them upstream of the most famous name in the trade.

This entry is thin: dates of birth and death, the division of work between the sisters, and what became of them are not established here. The Library also records that a Spanish house was widely taken for French, and does not know whether that was cultivated or merely allowed.
