Opening
VOIhotels is Alpitour World’s resort-hospitality platform for sun-and-beach leisure in Italy and selected long-haul destinations. Created as a dedicated hotel-management branch in 2014, it converts the distribution knowledge of Italy’s largest integrated tourism group into owned or managed resort hospitality. The brand is not uniformly luxury: its importance to LHL lies in the scale of its destination-resort system, its Italian leisure expertise, the newer VOI Essentia upper concept and its relationship with the separate luxury sister collection VRetreats.
Alpitour World — The Parent Ecosystem
VOIhotels cannot be understood in isolation from Alpitour World. The parent group developed as an integrated tourism system spanning tour operating, aviation, travel distribution and hospitality. Alpitour’s historical development included all-inclusive packages, long-haul leisure travel, travel-agency technology and the creation of airline Neos.
This ecosystem gives VOIhotels a structural advantage over a standalone resort operator: the group can influence product creation, distribution, flights and package demand as well as hotel operations.
2014 — The VOIhotels Launch
VOIhotels’ own corporate history dates the dedicated hotel-management branch to 2014, when Alpitour Group decided to create a resort platform after decades of tourism experience. The brand’s declared purpose is to bring guests to attractive Italian and international leisure destinations while creating a holiday that is beneficial both to the traveller and to the host location.
This origin makes VOIhotels fundamentally tour-operator-born hospitality rather than a hotel company that later entered travel packaging.
Current Scale
Alpitour World’s current hotel-management page describes VOIhotels as a consolidated collection of 18 hotels and resorts, focused particularly on sun-and-beach holidays. Together with VRetreats, the hotel division totals 27 hotels and resorts, more than 4,600 rooms and over 1.6 million bednights in 2025.
The figures show that VOIhotels is not a boutique collection. Its operating logic depends on meaningful resort scale, seasonal leisure flows and the ability to serve substantial family and package-tour demand.
Italy as the Core
The current VOIhotels resort map is strongly Southern Italian: Sardinia, Sicily, Apulia and Calabria. These regions provide the classic ingredients of the brand — sea, beaches, large resort grounds, family infrastructure, regional food and excursion potential.
The concentration is strategically coherent. Rather than trying to become a generic national hotel chain, VOIhotels builds expertise in the Italian seaside holiday, where Alpitour already possesses deep distribution knowledge.
International Resorts
Outside Italy, VOIhotels currently promotes resorts in Cape Verde, Zanzibar and Madagascar. These destinations connect naturally to Alpitour World’s long-haul leisure and aviation capabilities.
The international properties broaden the winter-sun proposition and allow the group to use a familiar resort operating language in destinations already understood by Italian leisure travellers. The model is therefore partly destination hospitality and partly vertical integration of tour-operating demand.
The Core VOI Resort
The traditional VOI resort is designed around a complete holiday rather than room-only accommodation. Full-board or all-inclusive structures, beach access, pools, sports, entertainment, children’s activities, excursions, food and wellness reduce the need for guests to assemble the trip themselves.
This places VOIhotels closer to integrated Mediterranean resort operators than to conventional city-hotel brands. Operational excellence depends on programming, F&B capacity, family logistics and seasonal resort management as much as on guestrooms.
Family Hospitality
Families are central to much of the VOI portfolio. Resorts such as Arenella, Alimini and Floriana combine entertainment, sports, children’s programmes, open spaces and practical board arrangements.
The value proposition is convenience with destination character. Parents can hand much of the daily coordination to the resort while retaining access to regional culture, food and excursions.
VOI Essentia — A More Refined Layer
VOI Essentia is the most important current evolution inside the core VOI brand. The official concept is built around three values — Care, Experience and Environment — and promises greater personalisation, wellness, local discovery, gourmet cuisine and quieter settings.
Essentia gives VOIhotels a mechanism to move selected properties upward without turning the entire portfolio into a luxury collection. It is better understood as an upper lifestyle/resort concept than as a separate ultra-luxury brand.
Daniela Essentia
From 2026 VOI Daniela Essentia in Apulia adopts a new hospitality concept designed exclusively for guests aged 12 and over. The resort has 129 rooms and emphasizes quiet, newly renovated accommodation, nature, wellness and a more intimate atmosphere.
The 12+ positioning is strategically interesting: it separates the property from the traditional family-village image and moves VOI toward couples, friends and guests seeking calmer resort leisure.
Le Muse Essentia
VOI Le Muse Essentia in Calabria is a compact 70-room resort near Tropea on the Costa degli Dei. Its scale is materially smaller than a conventional large holiday village, with direct beach access, Mediterranean greenery and a stronger focus on relaxation and wellbeing.
The property demonstrates how Essentia can use smaller scale itself as a luxury-adjacent feature.
Marsa Siclà Essentia
VOI Marsa Siclà Essentia in south-eastern Sicily occupies six hectares of Mediterranean landscape and contains 150 rooms in low-rise white villas. A Thalasso SPA, pools, regional food and access to the Sampieri beach support a restorative resort proposition.
Its village-like architecture and Sicilian setting show the strongest version of VOI’s destination idea: the resort should interpret local landscape rather than function as an interchangeable holiday compound.
Food and Regional Identity
VOIhotels increasingly frames food as a route into the destination. Italian resorts emphasize regional dishes, Mediterranean cuisine and locally sourced products, while Essentia makes gastronomy more explicit within its tailored-experience proposition.
For a resort operator serving many guests on board plans, food quality is structurally important. The challenge is to maintain regional character at operational scale.
Entertainment, Sport and the Complete Holiday
Entertainment and sport remain important parts of the core VOI product. The objective is not simply to provide facilities but to create a daily resort rhythm for families, couples and groups.
This is one reason VOIhotels should not be judged by the standards of an independent luxury boutique hotel. Its competence is orchestration: accommodation, meals, beach, activities, children and evening life must work together.
Wellness
Wellness ranges from supporting resort spas to more prominent Essentia propositions. Daniela includes wellness facilities and regenerative activities; Le Muse emphasizes body-and-mind restoration; Marsa Siclà operates a Thalasso SPA with saltwater pools and hydro-massage functions.
VOI is not a medical wellness platform. Wellness works as a complementary layer within the seaside holiday.
Sustainability — From Promise to Certification
VOIhotels has moved beyond generic sustainability language by obtaining GSTC certification across a substantial group of Italian resorts. The official certification page lists Arenella, Baia di Tindari, Marsa Siclà Essentia, Alimini, Daniela Essentia, Floriana, Le Muse Essentia, Colonna Village and Tanka Village. The current certification is valid until June 2027.
For a large resort operator, certification matters because environmental impacts are operational: water, energy, waste, beaches, sourcing and local socioeconomic relationships.
The Host Location as Stakeholder
VOI’s current brand language repeatedly states that a holiday should be good not only for the guest but also for the location hosting the resort. This is a useful evolution from the older enclosed-resort model.
The test is whether destination promotion, local sourcing, employment, excursions and environmental practices consistently support that promise. In the strongest cases, VOI can use its scale to direct substantial tourism value toward local economies.
VRetreats — The Luxury Sister Brand
VRetreats belongs to the same Alpitour World hotel division but should not be collapsed into VOIhotels. Alpitour describes VRetreats as a collection of nine historic residences and palaces in iconic Italian locations aimed at the international luxury market.
The division of labour is strategically sensible: VOIhotels can remain a broad resort and sun-and-beach platform while VRetreats carries the group’s historic-residence and international luxury ambitions. For LHL, VRetreats deserves separate treatment.
AWARD — Alpitour World Loyalty
Since 1 September 2025, VOIhotels participates in AWARD, Alpitour World’s group-wide loyalty programme. Guests earn points across participating Alpitour, Bravo, Francorosso, Eden Viaggi, Turisanda and VOIhotels products and can redeem them for rewards, vouchers, discounts and other benefits.
For VOIhotels specifically, the official rules state that points can be earned only for stays at VOIhotels properties located in Italy. Participation is restricted to eligible adult consumers resident or domiciled in Italy or San Marino. LHL should therefore classify Loyalty as Third-party / Parent-group — AWARD by Alpitour World, rather than as a proprietary VOI-only programme.
Distribution and Vertical Integration
VOIhotels benefits from Alpitour World’s travel-agency relationships, tour-operating brands, digital distribution and aviation ecosystem. This can generate demand in ways unavailable to an independent hotel operator.
The corresponding risk is brand dependence on the parent ecosystem. VOI must be strong enough as a hotel product that guests choose the resort itself, not merely accept it as one component of an Alpitour package.
Luxury Positioning
VOIhotels should not be classified uniformly as luxury. Much of the core portfolio belongs to quality four-star resort hospitality, often family- and all-inclusive-oriented. The luxury relevance comes from selected upper concepts, destination assets, the evolution of Essentia and the group’s wider hotel strategy.
For LHL, the most accurate description is Premium Resort Operator with an emerging upper-lifestyle layer. VRetreats, not VOIhotels, is the Alpitour hotel division’s dedicated luxury collection.
What Distinguishes VOIhotels
ALPITOUR-BORN HOSPITALITY. VOI converts decades of Italian tour-operating expertise into resort operations.
ITALIAN SEASIDE DEPTH. Sardinia, Sicily, Apulia and Calabria form the core operating geography.
VERTICAL DISTRIBUTION. Tour operating, agency distribution and aviation strengthen the hotel platform.
COMPLETE HOLIDAY OPERATIONS. Board, beach, family, entertainment, sport and excursions are integrated.
ESSENTIA. A mechanism for quieter, more personalised and refined resort hospitality.
GSTC CERTIFICATION. Sustainability has a measurable certification layer across multiple Italian resorts.
AWARD. Parent-group loyalty links VOI stays to the wider Alpitour World ecosystem.
What the Model Does Not Solve
The principal challenge is positioning. VOIhotels spans traditional holiday-village expectations and newer, more refined Essentia concepts. If the umbrella becomes too broad, guests may not understand the difference between a large family all-inclusive resort and a quieter 12+ Essentia property.
The relationship with VRetreats also needs clarity. VOI should not attempt to imitate VRetreats’ luxury identity; its stronger role is to become exceptionally good at destination-led premium resort hospitality.

Booking with LVXVRY
VOIhotels should be selected by resort concept rather than umbrella brand alone. Family resorts require analysis of board plan, children’s facilities, beach access and entertainment. Essentia properties should be assessed for age policy, room category, wellness and desired quietness. AWARD benefits apply under specific eligibility and booking rules and should be separated from any advisor benefits. For luxury clients, VRetreats should be evaluated independently rather than assumed to be an upper VOI tier.
Editorial Note
This entry reflects official VOIhotels and Alpitour World information reviewed in August 2026. VOIhotels dates its dedicated hotel-management branch to 2014. Alpitour World currently describes VOIhotels as a collection of 18 hotels and resorts and the combined VOIhotels/VRetreats division as 27 properties with more than 4,600 rooms and 1.6 million bednights in 2025. AWARD is the current Alpitour World loyalty programme from 1 September 2025; VOIhotels points earning is limited to Italian VOI properties. VRetreats is treated as a separate luxury collection, not as a VOIhotels sub-brand.
