Secrets Resorts & Spas emerged from AMResorts in 2002 as an adults-only, romance-led all-inclusive concept at a moment when the category was still associated largely with mass-market package holidays. The first Secrets was Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun in Mexico, and the brand's early proposition was deliberately specific: upscale suites, adults only, gourmet dining and the convenience of not signing for every drink or meal. Hyatt's June 2026 brand release records 28 Secrets resorts and nearly 11,000 rooms across eight countries.
The Brand
Secrets is now one of the core brands in Hyatt's Inclusive Collection. The operating model is adults-only and predominantly beachfront, with a strong couples, honeymoon, wedding and anniversary orientation. The brand combines all-inclusive economics with full-service resort infrastructure: multiple à la carte restaurants, premium beverages, spas, pools, entertainment, room service and higher-category Preferred Club areas. The corporate lineage is important. Secrets was created inside AMResorts, the resort-management arm of Apple Leisure Group. Hyatt acquired Apple Leisure Group for $2.7 billion in 2021, bringing Secrets, Dreams, Zoëtry and other all-inclusive brands into Hyatt. Secrets subsequently joined World of Hyatt and became one of the anchors of Hyatt's expansion in luxury leisure and all-inclusive travel.
Philosophy
The founding commercial insight was that a guest could want both higher-end resort standards and the psychological freedom of an all-inclusive stay. Alejandro Zozaya described the target as a customer who had never stayed all-inclusive but wanted luxury without repeatedly looking at prices or signing bills. That logic remains visible in the brand's Unlimited-Luxury® system. The current positioning has shifted toward connection and romance. Hyatt describes Secrets as purpose-built for adults seeking intimate getaways and meaningful time together. The product therefore differs from Breathless, which uses the same all-inclusive infrastructure for a more social and entertainment-led adult audience.
What Distinguishes it
Adults-only romance Secrets is built around couples and adult connection rather than merely excluding children. Weddings, honeymoons, anniversaries and romantic travel are central demand occasions. Unlimited-Luxury® The signature system includes unlimited à la carte dining without reservations at many resorts, premium beverages, 24-hour room and concierge service, refreshed minibars, pool and beach service, activities and entertainment. The important distinction is reduced transactional friction. Preferred Club Higher room categories add private lounges, upgraded amenities, dedicated concierge service and, at selected resorts, exclusive pools, beaches or restaurants. This creates an internal luxury tier without requiring a separate hotel. Resort scale Secrets generally operates substantial full-service resorts rather than tiny boutique hideaways. Guests receive multiple restaurants, large spas, pools, events and activities; privacy is created within resort scale rather than through extreme low density. Caribbean-to-Europe reach The brand grew from Mexico and the Caribbean into Mediterranean and European leisure markets, demonstrating that adults-only all-inclusive can travel beyond its original Caribbean geography.
Who it is Not For
Secrets is not for travellers who equate luxury with small scale, architectural rarity, extreme privacy or highly individualised butler service. Most properties are sizeable all-inclusive resorts with programmed activities, weddings and multiple dining venues. Guests who dislike resort ecosystems or prefer to eat outside the hotel every night may find the inclusive structure unnecessary.
