Roberto Naldi Collection

Roberto Naldi Collection is a family-owned European luxury hotel group whose hospitality history reaches back to the hotels developed by Roberto Fernandes in Naples and Rome in the 1940s and 1950s. The current collection consists of five hotels in Rome, Lugano and Paris and defines itself through Italian hospitality, prestigious locations, warm family atmosphere, gastronomy, understated luxury and personalised service.

Why Roberto Naldi Collection Matters

The collection represents a form of independent European luxury that predates the contemporary boutique-hotel boom. Its identity is not built around one designer or lifestyle concept, but around continuity of family ownership, classic hotels, panoramic locations, restaurants and the gradual modernisation of traditional hospitality.

Roberto Fernandes

The official group history identifies Roberto Fernandes, Roberto Naldi's grandfather, as the founder of the family hotel business, building hotels in Naples and Rome during the 1950s.

Giovanni Naldi

Engineer Giovanni Naldi continued the family business and expanded the family's hotel interests into Switzerland.

1977 - Splendide Royal Lugano

In 1977 Giovanni Naldi acquired the Splendide Royal in Lugano. Roberto, after university studies in economics, moved to Lugano the same year to attend hotel management college and spent substantial time inside the hotel.

1984 - Grand Hotel Eden

The family acquired Lugano's Grand Hotel Eden in 1984, strengthening the Swiss hotel platform that would become part of Roberto Naldi Hotels.

1985 - Roberto Naldi Hotels

The official history states that Roberto founded Roberto Naldi Hotels in 1985 with Parco dei Principi and the two Lugano hotels.

Parco dei Principi

Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa in Rome became one of the group's defining properties and its principal urban-resort expression.

A Hotelier Formed Inside Hotels

Roberto Naldi's training combined economics, hotel school and direct daily exposure to family properties. His leadership emerged from ownership and operations rather than a corporate-chain career.

2001 - Splendide Royal Rome

In 2001 Roberto Naldi acquired the Splendide Royal in Rome, a former monastery converted into a luxury hotel.

2008 - Brand Identity

The official history says that in 2008 Roberto Naldi Hotels began strengthening synergies among the properties and sharpening positioning around understated luxury.

From Hotels to Collection

The move from Roberto Naldi Hotels to Roberto Naldi Collection reflected an attempt to create a coherent family brand while preserving each hotel's individuality.

2011 - Public Rebranding

A July 2011 company announcement publicly repositioned Roberto Naldi Hotels as Roberto Naldi Collection, then comprising four luxury hotels and explicitly combining strong Italian identity with international character.

Tradition and Innovation

The constant search for a perfect combination of tradition and innovation is the central statement of the group's philosophy.

Understated Luxury

The collection has long used understated luxury as a positioning idea: refinement without excessive theatricality.

Italian Hospitality

The current homepage describes Italian hospitality through prestigious locations, warm and familiar atmosphere, high-level cuisine and luxury services.

International Spirit

Although the identity is strongly Italian, Lugano and Paris make the collection international in geography and clientele.

Each Hotel Has Its Own Identity

Roberto Naldi has repeatedly insisted that each hotel preserve its own identity while sharing the collection's values.

Personalised Welcome

The official group description emphasises a personalised and innovative welcome rather than standardised chain service.

Four Corporate Values

The current About architecture identifies Transparency, Corporate Culture, HR Development and Customising the Service as the four principal company values.

Current Portfolio - August 2026

The live official website lists five hotels: Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa, Hotel Splendide Royal Rome, Hotel Mancino 12, Hotel Splendide Royal Lugano and Hotel Splendide Royal Paris.

Three Cities

The current collection is concentrated in Rome, Lugano and Paris. Limited geography strengthens local knowledge but reduces network utility compared with global luxury groups.

Rome as the Operational Centre

Rome contains three of the five hotels and the largest concentration of restaurants, wellness and group infrastructure.

Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa

Parco dei Principi is the collection's large-format Roman luxury hotel and urban-resort product, combining guestrooms, meetings, gardens and Prince Spa.

Prince Spa

Prince Spa became a major investment in the group's wellness strategy and broadened Parco dei Principi beyond a traditional city grand hotel.

Hotel Splendide Royal Rome

The Rome Splendide Royal is the more intimate classic-luxury counterpart, housed in a former monastery near Via Veneto and Villa Borghese.

Mirabelle Restaurant

Mirabelle is the hotel's defining gastronomic and panoramic asset, using Rome's skyline and elevated dining as part of the experience.

Adèle Mixology Lounge

Adèle adds a rooftop cocktail and social layer to the Splendide Royal Rome.

Hotel Mancino 12

Hotel Mancino 12 opened in 2012 and represents the collection's boutique scale in central Rome.

Why Mancino Matters

Mancino 12 demonstrates that the collection is not limited to classic grand hotels. A smaller urban boutique can share the family hospitality system without reproducing the architecture of the Splendide or Parco dei Principi.

Lugano

Lugano is historically essential because Roberto Naldi's direct hotel education and the family's Swiss expansion were rooted there.

Hotel Splendide Royal Lugano

The Splendide Royal Lugano is the surviving core of the family's Swiss hotel history and combines lakefront grand-hotel heritage with contemporary restaurants and wellness.

I Due Sud

I Due Sud is the principal fine-dining expression in Lugano and reinforces gastronomy as a collection-wide differentiator.

La Veranda

La Veranda provides a more relaxed dining environment and extends the hotel's relationship with Lake Lugano and its views.

Splendide Lifestyle Spa

The spa adds a contemporary wellbeing layer to a traditional lakefront grand hotel.

The Grand Hotel Eden Chapter

Grand Hotel Eden was historically part of Roberto Naldi Hotels but is no longer listed in the current collection. It remains important to the family timeline and should not be counted as a current hotel.

Paris

Paris is the collection's smallest geographical chapter but strategically important because it places the family brand in one of the world's most competitive luxury-hotel markets.

Hotel Splendide Royal Paris

The Paris Splendide Royal is an exceptionally intimate luxury house near the Élysée Palace and Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

Paris as a Residence

Its small scale is particularly compatible with the collection's warm, familiar and personalised service philosophy.

Tosca Restaurant

Tosca provides the Italian culinary expression in Paris, making national hospitality identity visible through food rather than decorative branding.

Five Hotels, Different Scales

The collection spans a large urban-resort hotel, classic grand hotels and small boutique properties. The common system is family hospitality rather than physical scale.

Panoramic Locations

The official group language repeatedly emphasises central locations and exclusive views. Rome rooftops, Lake Lugano and prestigious Paris geography are recurring assets.

Gastronomy

High-level cuisine is one of the main elements named on the current homepage alongside location, atmosphere and luxury service.

Wellness

Wellness is concentrated in the larger properties, particularly Prince Spa in Rome and Splendide Lifestyle Spa in Lugano.

Family Atmosphere

The current brand language explicitly uses a warm and familiar atmosphere as a differentiator. Family ownership is translated into a guest-facing emotional promise.

A Note from the President

Roberto Naldi's presidential message describes each property as authentic and links past, present and future directly with his children Giovanni and Adele.

The Fourth Generation

Giovanni and Adele Naldi have long been presented as the continuation of the family hotel tradition.

2026 - Generational Transition

Italian hospitality trade reporting in April 2026 described Giovanni and Adele Naldi as taking the direction of the company founded by their father and beginning a new investment phase.

Why the Transition Matters

Roberto Naldi Collection must become a multi-generational institution rather than remain primarily identified with Roberto himself.

Investment Priorities

The 2026 development phase has been described around renovation, wellbeing and sustainability across the Rome, Lugano and Paris properties.

Continuity Rather Than Reinvention

The likely strength of the fourth-generation chapter is modernisation that preserves the collection's family, classic and understated identity.

No Universal Interior Template

The hotels occupy different building types and periods. Coherence comes from service, classic elegance, location and food rather than identical rooms.

Classic and Modern

The brand philosophy explicitly seeks a balance between modernity and timeless classic style.

Renovation as Continuity

Investment is intended to keep traditional hotels technically and aesthetically current without stripping away accumulated character.

Service Philosophy

The collection's service ideal combines professionalism and quality standards associated with international hotel chains with family-style personalisation.

Anticipating Needs

Roberto Naldi has historically described anticipating guest needs as a key operating principle.

Professionalism and Care

The President's message identifies passion, professionalism and care as qualities guests should perceive in every stay.

No Conventional Loyalty Programme

No proprietary points-and-tiers loyalty programme is identified on the current official consumer platform. The website instead promotes direct booking and newsletter communication.

Newsletter Relationship

The current newsletter offers updates about exclusive offers, events and new destinations, functioning as a simple direct-relationship layer rather than a rewards currency.

The Advantage of Family Continuity

Four generations of hotel involvement create genuine institutional memory and credibility that cannot be manufactured quickly.

The Risk of Family Continuity

Family ownership is valuable only if professional management, investment and succession remain strong. Heritage can become inertia if used to resist necessary change.

The Advantage of Small Scale

Five hotels allow ownership and senior leadership to remain close to the guest product.

The Disadvantage of Small Scale

The collection offers limited destination coverage and no large loyalty ecosystem, reducing utility for frequent global luxury travellers.

Comparison with J.K. Place

J.K. Place is smaller, more residential and more strongly design-authored through Michele Bönan. Roberto Naldi Collection is more classic, more multi-generational and includes larger grand-hotel formats.

Comparison with Rocco Forte Hotels

Both are family-led European luxury groups with strong Italian identity. Rocco Forte is much larger, more international and more systematised; Roberto Naldi Collection is more concentrated and personally family-operated.

Comparison with Baglioni Hotels

Baglioni similarly built Italian luxury across European capitals. Roberto Naldi Collection is smaller, more family-intimate and less expansion-driven.

Comparison with Lungarno Collection

Lungarno combines family ownership, Italian art and design with a more contemporary lifestyle orientation. Roberto Naldi is more classic and grand-hotel rooted.

Comparison with Sina Hotels

Sina is another Italian family hospitality group with a larger domestic network. Roberto Naldi Collection is more tightly edited and concentrated at the upper-luxury end.

The Advantage of Understated Luxury

Understatement allows the hotels to age more gracefully than trend-driven lifestyle concepts and suits long-term family ownership.

The Risk of Understated Luxury

In contemporary luxury, understatement can become invisibility. Renovation, digital presentation and food / wellness innovation must keep the collection relevant to younger international guests.

The Risk of Portfolio Concentration

Three hotels in Rome make the collection particularly exposed to one city's demand, operating environment and competitive set.

The Risk of Legacy Architecture

Historic buildings and classic hotels can carry high renovation, energy and maintenance costs.

The Risk of Generational Transition

The fourth generation must preserve trust with long-standing guests while establishing enough independent leadership to avoid appearing merely custodial.

What the Model Does Not Solve

Family ownership does not automatically create personalised service, classic design does not automatically create timelessness, and prestigious locations do not guarantee contemporary relevance. A five-hotel collection lacks the loyalty reach of global chains. The model succeeds when family memory is translated into professional operations, continuous investment and genuine recognition of the individual guest.

What Distinguishes Roberto Naldi Collection

A FOUR-GENERATION HOTEL TRADITION ROOTED IN ROBERTO FERNANDES, GIOVANNI NALDI, ROBERTO NALDI AND NOW GIOVANNI AND ADELE NALDI. ROBERTO NALDI HOTELS FOUNDED IN 1985; COLLECTION IDENTITY DEVELOPED FROM 2008 AND PUBLICLY REBRANDED IN 2011. FIVE CURRENT LUXURY HOTELS ACROSS ROME, LUGANO AND PARIS. TRADITION AND INNOVATION, UNDERSTATED LUXURY, PRESTIGIOUS LOCATIONS, WARM FAMILY ATMOSPHERE, HIGH-LEVEL GASTRONOMY AND PERSONALISED SERVICE AS CORE CODES.

The Strategic Achievement

Roberto Naldi Collection's achievement is continuity without complete standardisation. It has held together grand hotels, boutique properties and three European cities through a family hospitality philosophy rather than a rigid visual brand.

The Hospitality Lesson

The Roberto Naldi lesson is that family hospitality becomes strategically valuable only when memory is converted into operating behaviour. Guests should feel continuity because the hotel anticipates needs, remembers preferences, invests for the long term and treats the property as something to pass to the next generation.

Editorial Note

LHL records five current Roberto Naldi Collection hotels as of 22 August 2026 based on the live official website. Grand Hotel Eden remains historical. Roberto Naldi is retained as President and principal third-generation figure; April 2026 trade reporting indicates Giovanni and Adele Naldi have entered a new generational leadership phase.
