Red Carnation Hotels

Red Carnation is the Tollman family's hotel collection, named for the flower Stanley Tollman wore daily: some twenty individually decorated houses from London's Milestone and Rubens at the Palace to Ireland's Ashford Castle, Geneva's lakefront, Guernsey, South Africa's Oyster Box, Botswana's Xigera safari lodge and Florida's islands. Beatrice Tollman's personal taste furnishes every house; the collection is the register's fullest expression of maximalist family hospitality across four continents.

The brand

Red Carnation sits within the Tollmans' Travel Corporation universe, but the hotels are the family's personal œuvre: Mrs Tollman approves fabrics, menus and flowers; children and grandchildren run divisions. Ashford Castle's 800-year estate is the crown; The Milestone faces Kensington Palace; the Oyster Box holds Umhlanga's lighthouse view; Xigera brought the family into the Okavango at art-lodge grade.

The register is decorative abundance — pattern, colour, collections — with service to match: long-tenured staff, remembered preferences, tea and turndown theatre. The collection wins service awards consistently because the family treats hospitality as its personal reputation.

Brand philosophy

Red Carnation's philosophy is generosity made visible: rooms dressed like beloved homes, tables laden, staff empowered to give. The Tollman standard is anti-minimalist on principle — luxury as warmth and plenty, not restraint.

Family permanence is the second thread: houses are bought to keep, staff careers span decades, and the founders' personal style is institutionalised as the brand's DNA across generations.

What distinguishes it

Mrs Tollman's hand. One founder's taste decorates every house — the collection is a personal interior œuvre.

Ashford Castle. The 800-year Irish estate is among the world's great castle hotels under family care.

Four-continent family map. London, Ireland, Geneva, Africa and America under one family's flower.

Xigera's art-safari. The Okavango lodge translated the family register into collectible African design.

Service dynasties. Decades-long staff tenure delivers the remembered-guest culture awards keep recognising.

WHO IT IS NOT FOR

Red Carnation is a weak fit for travellers seeking minimalist design, corporate anonymity or resort-scale facilities — the houses are ornate, personal and boutique-sized. Guests wanting contemporary restraint or network points should look elsewhere; Red Carnation serves those who want hospitality as a family's lavish welcome, from Kensington to the Okavango.
