1 · POSITION

Mori Building gives hotels a role in making urban districts. Grand Hyatt Tokyo belongs to Roppongi Hills; Andaz Tokyo and Hotel Toranomon Hills serve the Toranomon developments; Janu Tokyo brings hospitality to Azabudai Hills. In this portfolio, the surrounding offices, homes, restaurants and cultural facilities are part of the reason a hotel occupies its particular address.[1]

2 · THE LOWER FLOORS OF A NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD

Janu Tokyo occupies floors one to thirteen of Azabudai Hills Residence A, facing the Central Green. Mori's facility description identifies 122 guestrooms, a 4,000-square-metre wellness facility and eight restaurants and bars. Jean-Michel Gathy's Denniston designed the interiors. These substantial shared facilities give the hotel a social presence beyond the private rooms upstairs.[2]

3 · A DIFFERENT USE OF AMAN

The same development includes Aman Residences, Tokyo, with ninety-one homes high in Mori JP Tower. Its residential identity matters. A branded home and a hotel room involve different forms of access and occupation, even when both draw on the same hospitality group's service language. Azabudai therefore contains two related propositions: permanent residences carrying Aman and a hotel carrying Janu.[2]

4 · A PORTFOLIO OF DISTINCT PLACES

Roppongi Hills combines its hotel with a museum, cinema and shopping; Toranomon offers a different concentration of business and hospitality. Mori's published hotel portfolio makes these relationships visible. The company can shape a district and its mix of uses without requiring every hotel to share a single consumer brand or reproduce the same guest experience.[1]

5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ Aman Tokyo must not be confused with Aman Residences, Tokyo. The former is in Otemachi Tower, which Japan Prime Realty identifies as a development by Tokyo Tatemono and Taisei. It is not the Azabudai project. Similar names and overlapping luxury brands are insufficient evidence for assigning a hotel's development to Mori Building.[2, 3]
