IDAM by Alain Ducasse

IDAM by Alain Ducasse brings a contemporary French dining programme into Doha's Museum of Islamic Art. Qatar Museums dates its establishment to 2013 and identifies it as Ducasse's first restaurant in the Middle East. Its hospitality proposition begins with that institutional setting: a restaurant occupying a place already devoted to the presentation of culture. [1, 3]

1 · POSITION

IDAM by Alain Ducasse brings a contemporary French dining programme into Doha's Museum of Islamic Art. Qatar Museums dates its establishment to 2013 and identifies it as Ducasse's first restaurant in the Middle East. Its hospitality proposition begins with that institutional setting: a restaurant occupying a place already devoted to the presentation of culture. [1, 3]

2 · THREE KINDS OF AUTHORSHIP

The museum, restaurant interior and culinary name are separate contributions. Philippe Starck's own project record documents his design for IDAM in 2013. The room therefore belongs to a collaboration between the museum and distinct creative practices; attaching Ducasse's name to the restaurant does not make him the author of its architecture or interior. [1, 2]

3 · A TABLE ABOVE THE CITY

Michelin places the restaurant on the museum's fifth floor and describes views across Doha, a seasonal tasting format and tableside presentation. The experience combines the attention of a formal meal with the visual scale of the city outside. French technique supplies the culinary framework, while the museum location gives the restaurant a setting that cannot be transferred simply by repeating the menu. [3]

4 · AN OPERATING HISTORY

Qatar Museums announced IDAM's reopening in November 2022 after the museum's refurbishment. Michelin subsequently confirmed the retention of its one star in the 2026 Doha selection. These are distinct measures of continuity: the institution documents renewed operation, while the guide records its own assessment of the cooking in a specified edition. [1, 4]

5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ The source list's 2012 opening date is not retained: the institutional account says 2013. The Michelin distinction is dated to the 2026 selection, rather than presented as permanent. A named chef in an older reopening release should likewise not be assumed to hold the same post today. [1, 4]
