The Frescobaldi were Florentine bankers who financed the English crown and have been growing wine in Tuscany for some seven hundred years — a rival lineage to the Antinori, in the same city, in the same trade.
2 · Why it matters
The family opened Frescobaldi restaurants in Florence and then in London, on Regent Street. A Tuscan producer trading under its own name in the capital that its ancestors lent money to is a long way round, and it is the same move Antinori made.
It is also the clearest test of this group's third route. **The question is never whether the name is famous; it is whether the name did the work.** Here it did: the restaurants exist because the wine exists, not the reverse.
3 · Signature & ritual
Castelgiocondo and Ornellaia — the second held jointly with the Mondavi family for years — and Tenuta Ammiraglia on the Maremma coast.
4 · What this house does not solve
The banking history is genuine but distant; presenting seven centuries as continuous hospitality would be false, and the family does not claim it.
Ornellaia was sold on and bought back through a complicated series of transactions with Mondavi and Constellation.
