1 · Position

Roland C. Pfister founded Cellap Laboratoire in 1982 at Le Mont-sur-Lausanne to research cosmetic products exclusively. A workable formulation was settled in August 1984, and at first the treatments were available only to patients at the revitalisation clinic Pfister then ran. The CellControl method — which stabilises the cellular extracts the products are built on — was completed in 1987, and the Cellcosmet and Cellmen brands were introduced that year with his wife Edith, who took them to the Swiss and then international market. Her son Alexandre Chappuis joined in 1988, when the company went from four people to five.

2 · ⚑ The third answer in this group

The Library now holds three ways of putting a name into a hotel spa. Cinq Mondes licenses a ritual, performed by trained staff. Rossano Ferretti licenses a technique. Cellcosmet licenses neither: it sells a product and controls where it may be used, restricting distribution to approved salons and spas. The treatment is the delivery mechanism for the formulation rather than the other way round — and of the three, this is the only one whose claim can in principle be tested in a laboratory.

3 · Candour

⚑ The efficacy claims made for cellular extracts are the company's own and are outside what a hospitality register can assess; the Library records the method, the dates and the distribution rule, not the results. One aggregator states the brand was founded by a team of Swiss scientists, which the company's own history contradicts — it was a man, his wife and later her son. The Library follows the house account and notes the discrepancy. Sources also give the brand launch as 1985, 1986 and 1987; the company says 1987.
