Sisley was founded by the d'Ornano family in 1976 and has remained in it. Its spas operate in a deliberately short list of hotels, chosen rather than accumulated.
2 · Why it matters
The house occupies a position the Library finds instructive: between the industrial reach of Natura Bissé and the single-house scarcity of Chanel. A few dozen locations, each a hotel of standing, and no ambition to be everywhere.
Its choices also read as a map of a particular clientele — Saint-Tropez, Venice, Saint Barth — the same coastal-and-Venetian world the beach clubs and historic tables of this Part describe. A treatment house reveals its intended guest through the hotels it accepts.
3 · Signature & ritual
Phyto-aromatic formulations, long facial protocols, and interiors that follow the hotel rather than imposing a maison identity — the opposite of the couture spas.
4 · What this house does not solve
A family house at mid-scale is squeezed from both directions: conglomerate maisons outspend it and specialist protocol houses out-argue it on results.
Adapting to each hotel's design means the spa is often not recognisably Sisley, which weakens exactly the brand recall that justifies the partnership.
And a short list of prestigious partners is a concentration risk: losing two or three houses would materially change the network.
