1 · POSITION
Jacques Courtin opened the first Clarins beauty institute on rue Tronchet in Paris in 1954. The business began with treatments offered in a place, before the name became widely encountered through products. That service origin is the relevant connection to the later Clarins spa world. [1]
2 · LISTENING AT THE INSTITUTE
Clarins presents attention to customers as a founding practice and describes the later use of customer cards enclosed with its products. The institutional story links observation during service to feedback from customers using products elsewhere. The relationship extended beyond a single appointment. [1]
3 · A METHOD THAT COULD TRAVEL
The movement from institute to product distribution made the brand available outside its original Paris address. For hospitality, the important distinction is between a product range and a treatment experience: the latter also requires practitioners, protocols and an environment in which service is delivered. A founder’s name cannot, by itself, identify the author of every later spa interior or treatment adaptation.
4 · MYBLEND HAS ANOTHER FOUNDER
Groupe Clarins explicitly credits Olivier Courtin with founding myBlend in 2007 and its reinvention in 2022. The Library’s combined Clarins Spa & myBlend anchor therefore contains more than one generation of authorship. Jacques established Clarins; the separate development of myBlend should retain Olivier’s name. [2]
5 · ⚑ CANDOUR
⚑ These are corporate histories. They establish the business origins and attribution but do not independently demonstrate the efficacy of treatments or products. Jacques is not credited with founding myBlend, and the record makes no medical claim from the vocabulary of beauty and wellbeing. Its scope is the institute-led service model from which Clarins developed.
