Vittorio Cerea opened Da Vittorio in Bergamo with Bruna Cerea in 1966. Their defining decision was to build a restaurant around fish in a city whose dining habits were more closely associated with meat. The venture made a particular product choice the starting point of a family hospitality house. [1, 2]

2 · THE RESTAURANT BEFORE THE ESTATE

The couple took over an existing, struggling restaurant. The later country setting at Brusaporto was not the original address. Keeping those two places separate allows the development to be understood: a city restaurant established its clientele before the family created a more extensive destination. [1]

3 · BRUNA’S WORK

Bruna was a cofounder and an active author of the welcome. La Cucina Italiana’s profile describes her continuing presence in the dining room and her role in keeping the family enterprise together. 4 · THE FAMILY CARRIES IT FORWARD

The house dates its first Michelin star to 1978, the second to 1996 and the move to Brusaporto to 2005. Vittorio died that year.
