NeueHouse is a private work-and-social club built around the idea that creative work, culture, food, design and hospitality can occupy the same house. Founded in New York in 2011 and opened at Madison Square in 2013, it rejected both conventional coworking and the old private-club model. After a severe financial crisis and closure of its network in 2025, Convene Hospitality Group acquired the brand and Madison Square operation in January 2026. The New York house is now the sole operating NeueHouse location.
Why it Belongs in LHL
NeueHouse is not a hotel, but it belongs in LHL's social-hospitality line for the same reason Soho House, The Ned and Core Club belong: hospitality is the operating system. Reception, food and beverage, concierge-like support, private rooms, cultural programming and membership create a repeat-use social environment rather than a rented desk.
2011 - The Idea
Joshua Abram, Alan Murray and James O'Reilly developed NeueHouse as an alternative to the coworking boom. The intended audience was not simply freelancers needing cheap desks but established and emerging people in creative industries who valued ideas, cultural exchange, design and privacy.
2013 - Madison Square
NeueHouse Madison Square opened in 2013 at 110 East 25th Street in Manhattan. The house became the prototype: industrial architecture softened by residential interiors, shared workspaces, private studios, cultural events, food and drink.
The Salon Model
The founders often described the concept through historical salons and coffeehouses rather than office centres. The ambition was to engineer collisions among different disciplines without turning every encounter into explicit networking.
Networking Without Networking
NeueHouse's early culture resisted transactional business-card exchange. The premise was that a carefully assembled community and strong programming would produce useful relationships indirectly.
a Hand-selected Community
The current membership proposition still describes a hand-selected community of independent thinkers across industries and ages. Membership is accepted on a rolling basis as space becomes available.
Work as Hospitality
NeueHouse treats the workday as a hospitality experience. Front-of-house reception, coffee, restaurant and bar service, meeting rooms, podcast facilities and member events surround the functional workspace.
The Hotel Parallel
The strongest NeueHouse spaces borrow from boutique hotels: lighting, furniture, service, food and the emotional comfort of a residential environment. The guest is a member who returns daily rather than a traveller staying overnight.
Madison Square Design
David Rockwell and Rockwell Group played a defining role in the Madison Square environment, blending the industrial building with the warmth of a designer residence. Under CHG the house is described as spanning eight floors.
Public And Private
NeueHouse combines communal galleries and lounges with meeting rooms, private studios and higher-privacy products. The value comes from moving between exposure and retreat during the same day.
Eleven
ELEVEN by NeueHouse pushes the concept toward executive-club territory: a private floor with studios and atelier desks, personalised services, concierge support and a residential-penthouse atmosphere.
Concierge
ELEVEN explicitly offers concierge services including travel and restaurant bookings, dry cleaning and guest relations. This is one of the clearest examples of NeueHouse crossing from workspace into hospitality.
Food & Drink
The Gallery Bar at Madison Square operates from power breakfast through dinner and cocktails. Food is designed to support work, meetings and social life rather than function as a conventional office amenity.
The Bar After Work
A bar changes the rhythm of the workplace. Members can move from meeting to dinner or drinks without changing venue, allowing professional and social relationships to overlap.
Cinema
Cinema by NeueHouse provides an 86-seat theatre, bar and lounge for premieres, screenings, talks, readings and cultural events. Visual culture is therefore physical infrastructure, not merely programming.
Podcast & Production
Recording and podcast facilities reflect the membership base. NeueHouse is designed for people who produce culture and media as well as consume it.
Events
Private events became a major commercial layer: product launches, premieres, dinners, talks and brand activations use the same design and hospitality infrastructure as membership.
Cultural Programming
Talks, screenings, performances and member gatherings make culture a recurring reason to return. The programming also acts as a curatorial filter for the community.
Hollywood
NeueHouse Hollywood opened in the historic CBS Radio Building, giving the brand a direct connection with the entertainment industry and making Los Angeles a major second chapter.
Venice Beach
Venice Beach opened later in a building with a long creative-production history. It extended the brand into a more relaxed coastal creative community.
Los Angeles as Proof
Hollywood and Venice demonstrated that NeueHouse could travel beyond New York when the building and local creative ecosystem were strong enough.
The Bradbury / Expansion Ambition
NeueHouse also pursued other Los Angeles and U.S. expansion plans over time. Some were announced, changed or did not become durable operating houses, illustrating the gap between a compelling club concept and scalable real-estate economics.
2025 - Crisis
In 2025 NeueHouse's prior company encountered severe financial distress and ceased operations. The crisis is essential to the institutional history because it exposed the vulnerability of a high-design, service-intensive membership model carrying legacy liabilities.
Why The Model is Hard
A private club must pay for premium real estate, design, hospitality staff, cultural programming and technology before membership revenue is guaranteed. Expansion magnifies fixed costs and execution risk.
January 2026 - Chg
Convene Hospitality Group completed its acquisition of NeueHouse in January 2026 through a court-approved asset purchase. CHG acquired the brand intellectual property and operations of Madison Square.
What Chg Did Not Buy Back
CHG stated that there were no current plans to reopen the former Los Angeles locations. This means the present NeueHouse is not a three-city network: it is one operating New York house plus a brand with potential future expansion.
Why Chg Fits
Convene Hospitality Group specialises in hospitality-driven meetings, events, flexible offices and membership environments. Its operating infrastructure is unusually aligned with NeueHouse's economics.
Preservation vs Reinvention
CHG has said it wants to preserve and nurture the existing NeueHouse community while building on the brand's legacy. The challenge is to stabilise economics without converting NeueHouse into a generic premium coworking venue.
Current Madison Square
Madison Square now combines membership lounges, private office suites, restaurant and bar, cinema, podcast studio and major event spaces including a penthouse and gallery.
One House Can be Enough
NeueHouse's relevance does not depend on becoming a global chain. A single culturally powerful house can be more valuable than a large network of diluted clubs.
Membership vs Hotel Occupancy
Hotels monetise nights; clubs monetise recurring belonging. The member relationship is longer, more behavioural and more sensitive to community quality.
Community as Inventory
A club's most valuable inventory is partly human. If the membership mix becomes too transactional, homogeneous or disengaged, beautiful rooms lose their social value.
Curation
NeueHouse therefore has to curate both programming and people. This is a different operational skill from simply filling desks.
Privacy
Creative professionals often need discretion, private meetings and controlled access. NeueHouse combines openness to ideas with physical and social privacy.
The Workplace After Remote Work
Hybrid work strengthened the logic of premium gathering places: members may not need an office every day, but they may value a high-quality place for meetings, collaboration and culture more when they do gather.
Neuehouse vs Soho House
Soho House begins from social club, restaurants and leisure and may include bedrooms. NeueHouse begins from creative work and adds social hospitality. Work is structurally more central.
Neuehouse vs Core Club
Core Club is more elite, luxury and service-intensive, with wealth and influence as stronger membership signals. NeueHouse is more explicitly creative-industry and work-oriented.
Neuehouse vs The Ned
The Ned is a large hospitality club ecosystem built around restaurants, bars, events and hotel rooms. NeueHouse is smaller and more focused on work, culture and production.
Neuehouse vs Convene
Convene primarily sells meetings, events and flexible workspace to businesses. NeueHouse sells recurring membership and cultural belonging. CHG now owns both, making the distinction strategically important.
Neuehouse vs Wework
WeWork industrialised flexible office space at huge scale. NeueHouse deliberately pursued the opposite territory: curated membership, elevated design, cultural programming and hospitality.
The Risk of Elitism
A hand-selected creative community can become socially narrow or self-congratulatory. The club must create genuine intellectual diversity rather than merely aesthetic similarity.
The Risk of Real-estate Economics
High-design clubs require expensive space and labour. The 2025 collapse demonstrates that cultural desirability alone does not guarantee sustainable unit economics.
The Risk of Overprogramming
Programming can become noise if every evening is an event. A work-and-social house must protect quiet, routine and the ability to use the building without participating.
The Risk of Losing The Founders' Magic
As ownership changes, a founder-built cultural institution can preserve furniture and branding while losing its social instincts. CHG's central task is to preserve the intangible community logic.
What Distinguishes Neuehouse
FOUNDED IN NEW YORK IN 2011 AND OPENED AT MADISON SQUARE IN 2013. A PRIVATE WORK-AND-SOCIAL CLUB FOR CREATORS, INNOVATORS AND THOUGHT LEADERS THAT COMBINES WORKSPACE, CULTURAL PROGRAMMING, FOOD & DRINK, CINEMA, EVENTS AND ELEVATED HOSPITALITY. AFTER A 2025 FINANCIAL COLLAPSE, CONVENE HOSPITALITY GROUP ACQUIRED THE BRAND AND MADISON SQUARE OPERATION IN JANUARY 2026; MADISON SQUARE IS NOW THE SOLE OPERATING HOUSE.
The Strategic Achievement
NeueHouse helped move coworking upward from desk rental toward cultural hospitality. It showed that professional space could borrow the emotional architecture of boutique hotels and private clubs.
The Hospitality Lesson
People will pay not only for space but for how space makes work, relationships and identity feel. The difficult part is that community and atmosphere are expensive to create and impossible to standardise completely.

Membership
NeueHouse offers membership and workspace products rather than a hotel loyalty programme. Gallery, Atelier, Studio and group / executive products provide different levels of access, privacy and work infrastructure.
Booking With LVXVRY
NeueHouse is not a hotel inventory product and has no conventional LVXVRY preferred-hotel booking relationship. For clients seeking private events, memberships, executive workspace or cultural access, LVXVRY should treat NeueHouse as a social-hospitality / club referral and verify current membership, guest and event access directly with the house.
Editorial Note
Founded in 2011 by Joshua Abram, Alan Murray and James O'Reilly; Madison Square opened in 2013. Following the prior company's 2025 closure and bankruptcy process, Convene Hospitality Group completed acquisition of the NeueHouse intellectual property and Madison Square operations in January 2026. CHG explicitly stated that there are no current plans to reopen the Los Angeles houses. LHL therefore records one operating house as of August 2026. Classification: Private Members' Club / Social Hospitality, not hotel brand.
