Delano is one of the foundational names of modern luxury lifestyle hospitality. The original Delano Miami Beach opened in 1995 under Ian Schrager with interiors by Philippe Starck and helped redefine what a resort hotel could feel like: theatrical yet restrained, social yet discreet, design-led without behaving like a conventional grand hotel. The brand is now being rebuilt globally inside Ennismore, the lifestyle hospitality platform formed with Accor.
The Brand
Current Accor language describes Delano as 'sophisticated & understated' and a 'bustling cocoon': a sanctuary combining convivial energy, pleasure, play and discretion. That tension is central to the brand. Delano should feel socially alive without becoming visually noisy, luxurious without needing to demonstrate luxury through ornament.
1995 - Miami Beach
The 1995 Miami Beach opening is the historical master reference. It arrived during the reinvention of South Beach and became closely associated with the emergence of lifestyle hotels: architecture, interiors, music, pool culture, bars, restaurants and social scene operated as one authored experience.
Ian Schrager
Schrager's role is foundational. After Studio 54 and Morgans, Delano extended his argument that hotel public spaces could function as cultural and social stages. The hotel was not only a place to sleep; the crowd, lobby and pool were part of the product.
Philippe Starck
Starck's design gave the original Delano its visual language: oversized objects, white-on-white spaces, surreal gestures and a sense of theatrical editing. The work helped establish the designer as a hospitality author rather than a decorator operating behind the brand.
The White Language
The original white palette became one of Delano's most recognisable codes. Its power came from contrast: tropical Miami colour and social energy outside, controlled visual calm inside.
Lifestyle Hospitality
Accor now explicitly describes Delano's 1995 arrival as marking the inception of lifestyle hospitality. The claim is promotional, but historically Delano unquestionably belongs among the small group of hotels that made design, nightlife and social curation central to luxury hotel identity.
Discretion
Delano differs from lifestyle brands built primarily around spectacle. The current brand language repeatedly returns to discretion and understatement. The guest should be able to participate in social energy without losing privacy.
Pleasure And Play
Delano is not a wellness retreat or minimalist monastery. Pleasure, nightlife, food, pool culture and playful social behaviour remain part of the identity.
The Bustling Cocoon
The phrase captures the paradox: Delano wants both enclosure and energy. A successful house creates private emotional shelter while remaining connected to a culturally relevant social scene.
The Long Pause
The original Miami property closed for a multi-year transformation. During that period the brand survived through memory and new international openings rather than its defining house.
Maison Delano Paris
Maison Delano Paris established a quieter European expression in an eighteenth-century building in the 8th arrondissement. With 56 rooms and suites, courtyard, Delano Café and Delano Bar, it demonstrates how the brand can become intimate and urban without copying Miami.
Delano Dubai
Delano Dubai brought the name to Bluewaters Dubai with a large beachfront luxury-resort format. The property uses 250 metres of Arabian Gulf beach and a more expansive resort scale than Paris.
June 2026 - Miami Returns
Delano Miami Beach reopened in June 2026 after a major reimagining. Ennismore describes 171 guestrooms and suites, including poolside bungalows and penthouses, with preserved Art Deco heritage, new wellness and four restaurant and bar concepts.
Why The Return Matters
A global Delano brand without Miami would always lack its historical centre. The reopening restores the original address as a living hotel rather than a reference used to legitimise newer properties.
Art Deco Heritage
The 2026 transformation explicitly preserves key historical features and reconnects the hotel with Miami's Art Deco landscape. The challenge is to honour 1995 as well as the older building rather than freeze either era as a museum.
Paris Society
The reopened Miami hotel introduces Paris Society concepts including Gigi Rigolatto and Mimi Kakushi, marking Paris Society's U.S. debut. Food and nightlife therefore remain strategic demand generators rather than secondary hotel amenities.
Rose Bar
The return of Rose Bar reconnects the new hotel with one of Delano's most recognisable social institutions. A bar can carry brand memory more effectively than a logo because guests remember behaviour and atmosphere.
The Source by Delano
The Source is a new wellness concept at Miami, described as a holistic social spa. This is a notable evolution: wellness is being integrated without abandoning the brand's communal energy.
Members Club
The new Miami chapter includes a members-club layer, extending Delano from transient hotel use into recurring local community and social membership.
New Icons
Accor's current Delano brand page frames the next chapter around 'The New Icons'. The strategic objective is clear: create new hotels that can become cultural reference points rather than merely deploy the Delano name.
Crafted And Bespoke
Current brand language emphasises editing and perfection rather than chasing trends. This is a mature repositioning for a brand historically associated with trend creation.
Ennismore
Delano is now part of Ennismore, the lifestyle platform created as a joint venture with Accor in 2021. Ennismore supplies design, storytelling, F&B and cultural expertise while Accor provides global scale and distribution.
Accor
Accor provides the larger corporate and loyalty infrastructure. Its 2025 financial statements show the complex ownership architecture around Ennismore and Delano brand entities rather than a simple wholly owned hard-brand model.
Cain
Current official Delano material states that the brand is a strategic partnership between Ennismore and Cain. This partnership layer is important to ownership taxonomy and should not be simplified into 'Accor owns Delano' without qualification.
Ben Pundole
Ennismore appointed Ben Pundole as Chief Brand Officer for Delano as part of the current global relaunch. His role is to strengthen cultural relevance and shape the next generation of the brand.
London
Ennismore's 2026 opening programme identifies Delano London as part of the brand's next expansion chapter. LHL treats it as pipeline until operating status is confirmed.
New York
New York is also named in official Delano materials as a forthcoming market. The city is strategically important because Delano's original creative lineage runs directly through New York lifestyle hospitality.
Marrakech
In May 2026 Ennismore announced the first Delano Hotel & Residences in Marrakech with YAMED. The hotel is planned for 2030, extending Delano into North Africa and branded residences.
Branded Residences
In February 2026 Ennismore and PMG announced the first-ever Delano branded residences in Downtown Miami: a planned 90-storey project with 421 residences and a Rose Bar high above the city.
Why Residences Matter
Residences turn lifestyle brand equity into everyday living. Delano must translate discretion, design, social spaces and service into a home without turning the residence into a permanent nightclub.
Architecture
Delano cannot rely on one architectural prototype. Miami Art Deco, Parisian historic fabric, Dubai beachfront resort architecture and future city towers require different physical responses.
Design
The design principle is editing rather than replication. A new Delano should inherit confidence, proportion, sensuality and restraint from the original without reproducing Starck's 1995 vocabulary literally.
Food & Beverage
F&B is structural to the brand. Bars and restaurants create local relevance, evening energy and repeat use by residents who are not hotel guests.
Nightlife
Nightlife remains part of the DNA but is no longer the sole definition. The current relaunch balances wild nights with wellness, discretion and daytime social life.
Wellness
The Source by Delano suggests a more contemporary understanding of lifestyle luxury: recovery and nourishment belong beside nightlife rather than in opposition to it.
Culture
Delano's best hotels should participate in local culture through programming, art, music, restaurants and community rather than exist as sealed luxury objects.
Service
Service should be confident and discreet rather than ceremonial. Delano is less about visible butlers and more about making a socially complex hotel feel effortless.
Who it is Not For
Delano is not for travellers who want classical palace formality, standardised corporate luxury or complete social withdrawal. The brand assumes interest in design, food, people and cultural energy.
Delano vs Edition
Both descend from Ian Schrager's influence on lifestyle hotels. EDITION is more restrained, residential and scaled through Marriott; Delano carries a more direct Miami mythology and a stronger legacy of pool, bar and social theatre.
Delano vs w
W industrialised the lifestyle hotel at far greater global scale. Delano is smaller, more historically foundational and more dependent on individual iconic houses.
Delano vs Mondrian
Mondrian shares Morgans-era lifestyle ancestry and now also sits inside Ennismore. Mondrian is more art-forward and playful; Delano is positioned as more refined, discreet and luxury-led.
Delano vs Sls
SLS is more overtly theatrical, culinary and nightlife-driven. Delano aims for a calmer, more edited form of social luxury.
Delano vs me by Meliá
ME uses contemporary culture, fashion, music and architecture as recurring codes. Delano has deeper historical authority in the creation of lifestyle hospitality and a stronger language of discretion.
The Risk of Legend
A legendary first hotel can become a burden. Every new Delano is compared with a highly mythologised Miami past that cannot and should not be recreated literally.
The Risk of Corporate Reconstruction
Lifestyle brands often lose cultural credibility when scaled through large groups. Ennismore's task is to use Accor infrastructure without allowing Delano to feel like a conventional corporate rollout.
The Risk of Too Many Partners
Accor, Ennismore, Cain, hotel owners, developers, F&B partners and residence partners create a complex ecosystem. Clear creative authority is necessary to keep the brand coherent.
What Distinguishes Delano
BORN IN MIAMI BEACH IN 1995 THROUGH IAN SCHRAGER AND PHILIPPE STARCK. ONE OF THE FOUNDATIONAL HOTELS OF MODERN LUXURY LIFESTYLE HOSPITALITY. NOW REBUILT GLOBALLY THROUGH ENNISMORE, ACCOR AND CAIN AROUND SOPHISTICATION, UNDERSTATEMENT, PLEASURE, PLAY, DISCRETION AND CULTURAL ENERGY. THE 2026 REOPENING OF DELANO MIAMI BEACH RESTORES THE BRAND'S ORIGINAL CENTRE.
The Strategic Achievement
Delano's achievement is not merely that it survived thirty years. Its larger contribution is that many things now normal in luxury hotels — authored design, social lobbies, pool culture, curated music, destination bars and the hotel as cultural stage — were once radical enough to define Delano.
The Hospitality Lesson
Lifestyle hospitality becomes durable only when style is supported by operating intelligence. A fashionable room ages quickly; a strong social ecosystem can be reinterpreted across generations.
