Canyon Ranch

Canyon Ranch is an American destination-spa company. Wikipedia states that it "was founded by Mel and Enid Zuckerman and Jerry Cohen in 1979 in Tucson, Arizona", and a local account of the first day records eight guests, one of whom paid. Its two long-standing resorts are the Tucson original and Lenox, Massachusetts, where "the Lenox resort opened in 1989" in the Bellefontaine Mansion. Spa + Fitness locations followed "starting in 1999", including those at The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas, and Canyon Ranch spas operate at sea with Cunard, Regent Seven Seas, Oceania and on "all Millennium & Solstice-class Celebrity vessels". The Founders Leave

On 17 March 2017 Spa Business reported that Melvin and Enid Zuckerman and Jerrold Cohen "are retiring from the legacy brand after nearly 40 years", leaving operations to the chief executive, Susan Docherty, appointed in 2015. The same report names John C. Goff as chair and chief executive of "Crescent Real Estate Holdings, owner of Canyon Ranch". Hotel Management, covering the same announcement, dates the Goff partnership to 1996. The founders are held in this register as one code, LHL-P-817. [3,4]

Goff And Fort Worth

Wikipedia states: "In mid 2017, Canyon Ranch was purchased by Goff Capital", and that the headquarters then moved to downtown Fort Worth. Dallas Innovates, in December 2023, gives the same year: "Fort Worth-based Goff Capital acquired the company in 2017". The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, in August 2023, puts it differently: Goff "first invested in Canyon Ranch in 1997 and gained full ownership in 2017". Goff's own biography lists Canyon Ranch among the wellness holdings of Goff Capital and names him chairman of its board. [1,6,5,11]

Outside Money And A Third Resort

Bloomberg reported on 26 July 2023 that VICI Properties "agreed to invest up to $150 million in preferred equity in Canyon Ranch" and lent a further $150 million "secured by its spas in Tucson, Arizona, and Lenox, Massachusetts". The Star-Telegram added an earlier $200 million from VICI for an Austin property, and quoted Goff: "we're still going to own the company." A Canyon Ranch Wellness Club opened in Fort Worth's new Crescent Hotel complex by December 2023. Canyon Ranch Austin, on 600 acres with 141 rooms, was announced in June 2026 to open on 15 October 2026. [5,7,6,8]

Kaplankaya

In October 2015 Meetings Today reported that Canyon Ranch would be "the anchor brand of the Kaplankaya development" near Bodrum, with an initial phase to open in July 2016 and 141 rooms. Sabah, on 27 May 2017, states that the first phase with the Canyon Ranch hotel opened in 2016, that the owner Burak Öymen ended the agreement at cost, and that the hotel reopened for the 2017 season with Six Senses. Sabah names Öymen and Serzhan Zhumashov as the Capital Partners investors; American Spa describes the property as "Owned by Capital Partners of Turkey". The register holds Capital Partners as LHL-740. [9,10,12]

Editorial note — ⚑ Two readings of ownership stand. One source has Goff Capital buying Canyon Ranch "in mid 2017"; Spa Business, in March 2017, already calls Goff's Crescent Real Estate Holdings the "owner". The Star-Telegram's "full ownership in 2017" reconciles them, but it is a single witness. The start of Goff's involvement is 1996 in one source and 1997 in another. Wikipedia also places Mel Zuckerman's start "in 1978" in one passage. The Woodside, California, retreat was announced in 2019; its opening is not confirmed in anything read here. Austin's opening on 15 October 2026 was announced; no source read confirms it took place. The Kaplankaya opening year rests on Sabah alone.
