Opening
Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels is not merely one of Mauritius’ largest resort operators; it is part of the origin story of the island’s modern tourism industry. Its hotel lineage begins in 1952 with the Park Hotel in Curepipe, opened when Mauritius received only around 1,800 visitors a year. Today Beachcomber operates eight resorts across Mauritius, ranging from Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury to substantial four- and five-star family, golf, wellness and beach resorts. The group’s greatest asset is not international scale but extraordinary depth in one destination.
1952 — Before Mauritius Became a Resort Destination
Beachcomber’s historical account begins in June 1952. Qantas had launched a Perth–Johannesburg service stopping in Mauritius, and Rogers & Co., the airline’s local representative, created Mauritius Hotels to accommodate passengers and crews. Under Amédée Maingard and Michel Pitot, the colonial Château Mallac in Curepipe was converted into the 40-room Park Hotel.
At a time when annual visitor arrivals were measured in the low thousands, the project was an act of confidence in an industry that barely existed.
From Transit Hotel to Beach Hospitality
The next decisive step came in 1962 with beach hotels including Le Morne Plage. The company moved from serving aviation transit traffic to defining the island holiday itself. Over subsequent decades, Beachcomber helped establish resort geographies later synonymous with Mauritius: Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches, Le Morne and the wild south.
The Beachcomber Name
The modern Beachcomber identity grew out of New Mauritius Hotels and a portfolio accumulated and developed over decades through acquisitions, new builds, reconstructions and renovations. Beachcomber became the outward-facing name linking properties with different histories and characters. The result is closer to a family of Mauritian resorts than to a hard global chain.
Eight Resorts, One Island
The current official portfolio contains eight resorts, all in Mauritius: Royal Palm, Dinarobin, Paradis, Trou aux Biches, Shandrani, Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia. This concentration allows different guest missions while retaining destination expertise, supplier relationships, staffing knowledge and operational synergies inside one country. The weakness is equally clear: the portfolio is highly exposed to Mauritius as a destination.
Royal Palm — The Luxury Apex
Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury is the clear upper apex and is described by Beachcomber as a palace with a human touch. Located in Grand Baie, it represents the most discreet, service-intensive and internationally luxury-oriented expression of the group. Royal Palm prevents Beachcomber from being understood only as a broad family-resort operator.
Dinarobin — Tropical Elegance at Le Morne
Dinarobin Beachcomber opened in 2001 and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026. At the foot of Le Morne Brabant, it combines suites, villas, wellness, gastronomy and golf access with a quieter and more elegant resort atmosphere. Le Morne is not simply a backdrop but one of Mauritius’ defining cultural and natural symbols.
Paradis — Golf, Beach and Family
Paradis Beachcomber shares the Le Morne peninsula with Dinarobin and is one of the portfolio’s most complete leisure resorts. Beach, golf, water sports, family infrastructure, villas and wide dining choice create a broad proposition. Together, Paradis and Dinarobin form a powerful two-property resort ecosystem.
Trou aux Biches — The Rebuilt Classic
Trou aux Biches is one of Beachcomber’s historic names. The old resort was demolished and completely reconstructed, reopening in 2011 with suites and villas. The redevelopment transformed a legacy property into a contemporary five-star resort while preserving one of Mauritius’ famous northwest beach locations.
Shandrani — The Wild South
Shandrani Beachcomber occupies a distinctive setting near Blue Bay and the airport, with multiple beaches and strong access to the southeast marine environment. It is more activity-led and all-inclusive-friendly than the upper luxury properties, turning the wild south into a complete resort holiday.
Victoria — Family Scale
Victoria Beachcomber is one of the clearest family propositions. Spacious accommodation, west-coast sunset geography, children’s and teenagers’ infrastructure, sport and broad facilities make it particularly suited to multigenerational travel. Beachcomber’s family strength comes from operating experience rather than simply adding a kids’ club.
Canonnier — Heritage and Landscape
Canonnier Beachcomber occupies a historic site in northern Mauritius and uses ruins, gardens, mature trees and coastal landscape as part of its identity. The resort has undergone major renovations and expansions. It demonstrates how established sites can accumulate character that a new-build resort cannot instantly reproduce.
Mauricia — Social Grand Baie
Mauricia Beachcomber is the lively, accessible Grand Baie expression of the portfolio. Proximity to the village, sport, beach life and an informal atmosphere make it very different from Royal Palm despite sharing the same broader destination.
Le Morne as a Beachcomber Destination
With Dinarobin and Paradis side by side, Beachcomber effectively operates a destination within Le Morne. The resorts share a powerful landscape, golf and extensive leisure infrastructure while maintaining different personalities. This dual-property ecosystem is one of Beachcomber’s strongest strategic assets.
Golf
Golf is a significant Beachcomber competence. Paradis Golf Club is integrated directly into the Le Morne resort environment, while Beachcomber’s experiences programme also includes family golf and sport-led activities. Golf works as part of the wider Mauritius holiday rather than as an isolated specialist proposition.
Villas and Private Accommodation
Beachcomber has developed villas and high-end suites at several resorts, including Dinarobin, Paradis and Trou aux Biches. Villa benefits have included private pools, host or maid service, in-villa breakfast options, family equipment and enhanced privacy. This allows the group to serve affluent families and groups who want resort infrastructure with private-home characteristics.
Family Hospitality
Family hospitality is a strong cross-property capability. Current experiences include, depending on hotel, family cooking, beach dinners, garden and beekeeping visits, tennis or fitness, golf, destination excursions and babysitting. Family travel is integrated into food, sport, culture and nature rather than isolated inside children’s clubs.
Sport and the Mauritian Outdoor Holiday
Water and land sports are deeply embedded in Beachcomber’s resort model. The official proposition emphasizes complimentary activities at many properties, while Mauritius itself supplies lagoons, reefs, mountains and year-round outdoor possibilities. Beachcomber has decades of experience operating the classic Mauritius formula: beach plus active leisure.
Wellness
Spa and wellness are present throughout the collection, with intensity varying by property. Dinarobin is particularly wellness-compatible, Royal Palm raises service intensity, and the larger family resorts integrate spa into broader holiday programmes. Beachcomber is not a medical-wellness platform.
Gastronomy and Mauritian Identity
Food ranges from high-end dining at Royal Palm and the five-star resorts to broad multi-restaurant operations in larger properties. Beachcomber increasingly uses experiences, local products and Mauritian cultural references to make gastronomy part of destination discovery.
The Art of Beautiful
The current master philosophy is The Art of Beautiful. Beachcomber frames the stay around exceptional settings, nature, present-moment enjoyment and experiences that resonate personally with the guest, culminating in Be free. Be happy. Be you. Be Beachcomber. The approach connects eight different resorts through a shared feeling rather than a rigid physical template.
Be Cherished
Within The Art of Beautiful, Beachcomber places Be Cherished at the heart of its promise and links service to four core values. The objective is recognition and emotional connection: guests should feel cared for rather than processed through a standardized resort machine.
Sustainability
Beachcomber increasingly presents sustainability as part of responsible Mauritian tourism. The group highlights environmental philosophy and certifications, while individual properties work with gardens, bees, local products, marine environments and resource management. For eight large beachfront resorts on one island, energy, water, waste, coastal resilience and local employment are materially important.
Repeat Guests and Fast Rebooking
Beachcomber does not currently foreground a conventional points/status club. Repeat behaviour is encouraged through mechanisms such as Fast Rebooking: an additional 5% discount on a subsequent stay when booked within three months after departure, subject to offer conditions and the applicable travel window. This is meaningful repeat-guest recognition but not a formal loyalty programme.
Loyalty Classification
For LHL, the appropriate current classification is Loyalty programme — None. Beachcomber values repeat guests and operates rebooking incentives, but no formal collection-wide proprietary points/status programme is central to the current public proposition.
Luxury Positioning
Beachcomber spans several quality levels. Royal Palm is the genuine luxury apex. Dinarobin, Paradis and Trou aux Biches form the principal five-star layer. Shandrani, Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia operate in the four-star premium resort segment. For LHL, Beachcomber is best classified as a Mauritian Resort Institution with a Luxury Apex and broad premium base.
What Distinguishes Beachcomber
MAURITIUS PIONEER. The hotel story begins in 1952, before mass tourism existed on the island.
ONE-ISLAND DEPTH. Eight resorts create exceptional operating knowledge of Mauritius.
ROYAL PALM APEX. A true luxury flagship anchors the top of a broad portfolio.
LE MORNE ECOSYSTEM. Dinarobin and Paradis create a powerful combined resort destination.
FAMILY + SPORT. Multigenerational travel and active leisure are genuine competencies.
VILLAS. Private accommodation extends the upper product for affluent families and groups.
THE ART OF BEAUTIFUL. Emotional connection rather than hard standardization unifies the collection.
LONG-TERM GUEST RELATIONSHIPS. Repeat incentives and institutional history support loyalty without a points club.
What the Model Does Not Solve
Beachcomber’s strength in Mauritius is also its main strategic limitation. The brand has little geographic diversification and must continually renew mature assets while new international luxury brands enter the island. Portfolio breadth is another challenge: Royal Palm and Mauricia share the Beachcomber name but operate at very different luxury levels.
Historical Expansion Beyond Mauritius
Beachcomber has previously operated beyond its current Mauritius portfolio. Its history includes Sainte Anne in Seychelles and Royal Palm Marrakech in Morocco, among other international ambitions. These chapters demonstrate that the group tested geographic expansion even though today’s consumer-facing collection is again concentrated on Mauritius. Historical international properties belong in the timeline, not the current portfolio count.

Booking with LVXVRY
Beachcomber should always be booked property by property. Royal Palm requires suite category and service-level analysis; Dinarobin and Paradis require decisions around Le Morne atmosphere, golf, family composition and villas; Trou aux Biches is especially relevant for pool-villa families; Shandrani, Victoria, Canonnier and Mauricia should be matched to board plan, activity needs, family structure and preferred coast. Fast Rebooking should be assessed separately from advisor benefits.
Editorial Note
This entry reflects official Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels information reviewed in August 2026. The current consumer portfolio presents eight resorts, all in Mauritius. Beachcomber traces its hospitality history to the 40-room Park Hotel opened in Curepipe in 1952, while the modern portfolio ranges from Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury to four-star family and activity resorts. Historical international properties such as Sainte Anne and Royal Palm Marrakech are timeline chapters, not current portfolio members. No formal collection-wide proprietary points/status loyalty programme is currently confirmed.
