White Beirut

1 · POSITION

White opened on the roof of Beirut’s An Nahar building in 2006, three weeks before the July war. Addmind’s first outdoor club therefore began with an interruption almost as immediate as its launch. Its subsequent history connects a particular Beirut rooftop to an exportable form of nightlife: music, drinks and spectacle assembled beneath an open sky.[1]

2 · LEAVING THE ROOF

Addmind had identified the rooftop at the end of 2005. In 2011, White moved to the Dora seaside highway as the surrounding downtown district developed and neighbouring businesses complained. The relocation matters: the name survived the loss of its original building. An outdoor setting and a recognisable night out could hold the identity together across different sites.[1]

3 · THE DUBAI TRANSLATION

In 2013, the team tested Dubai through The White Room, a temporary club at Al Murooj Rotana, before announcing a December opening on the Meydan Racecourse grandstand roof. The proposed programme combined DJs, live entertainment, large screens and lighting effects. Beirut supplied a reputation; Dubai supplied another elevated platform and a different metropolitan audience.[2]

4 · FROM NIGHT TO BEACH

The brand subsequently entered a hotel resort. Atlantis, The Palm and Addmind announced WHITE Beach in 2019, extending the name into a beach-club setting. That development belongs to the wider White family, rather than to the physical history of White Beirut. Together, the projects show how a nightlife operator can translate an evening destination into a broader hospitality proposition.[3]

5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ White Beirut is treated here historically. The documented opening, move and Dubai expansion do not establish an uninterrupted operating record or a current Beirut events calendar. Nor do they prove that White invented the outdoor nightclub. Its defensible contribution is the development and transfer of a named Beirut hospitality format across locations and, eventually, into a resort partnership.[1–3]
