1 · Opening
Tao opened in New York in 2000 with a Buddha over the dining room and a queue at the door, and grew into the company that runs the restaurants and nightclubs of a large share of the Las Vegas Strip.
2 · Why it matters
The Library records Tao Group as infrastructure. Casino resorts and luxury hotels do not, as a rule, want to operate nightlife themselves; Tao is what they hire instead. Its acquisitions — Hakkasan among them ⚑ — assembled a portfolio spanning Michelin-level Chinese dining and arena-scale clubs under one operator.
That combination is the commercial reality behind several houses in this section. When a resort in the main register advertises its dining and nightlife programme, this is frequently the company delivering it.
3 · Signature & ritual
Large rooms, high volume, a service culture built for spend-per-hour; the Vegas day-club and nightclub calendar as the group's core business.
4 · What this house does not solve
Volume operations and serious kitchens sit uneasily in one company: the group owns houses whose standards are set by Michelin and others by bottle count.
Nightlife is the most fashion-exposed business in hospitality; a portfolio of clubs must be refreshed constantly or replaced.
And a contract operator is always replaceable — the hotels own the rooms, and the next group is always pitching.
