A generation of the Badrutt line that made St Moritz. In 1928, with demolition planned for the 1658 Chesa Veglia, he bought the building to preserve it, and furnished the interior largely from his own collection of artefacts.
2 · WHY HE IS IN THE LIBRARY
Because the purchase had no business case. Every other acquisition in this register was made to earn; this one was made to prevent a loss that would have cost the buyer nothing. The restaurant that justified it came afterwards, and was not his idea. It is the clearest instance the Library holds of preservation preceding use.
3 · ⚑ WHAT IS NOT ESTABLISHED
Dates of birth and death, his exact place in the succession from Johannes Badrutt — LHL-P-006 Johannes Badrutt — and his role in running the Palace are not established here. Under §21 this line needs completing.
