Teritoria

Teritoria is a European community of independent hoteliers and restaurateurs built around human-scale hospitality, terroir, gastronomy and measurable environmental and social commitments. It is the current identity of the community historically known as Les Collectionneurs.

Position

Teritoria is a European community of independent hoteliers and restaurateurs built around human-scale hospitality, terroir, gastronomy and measurable environmental and social commitments. It is the current identity of the community historically known as Les Collectionneurs.

Classification

Recommended LHL placement: Regional Associations → National / European Hospitality Communities → France-origin Independent Hotels & Restaurants Community. It is broader than a hotel association because restaurants are structural members.

1975 - Historical Root

Teritoria's official commitments page states that the community dates to 1975. Ducasse Paris likewise describes the independent hoteliers-and-restaurateurs community as founded in 1975.

From Les Collectionneurs to Teritoria

Ducasse Paris explicitly states that Les Collectionneurs entered a new chapter by becoming Teritoria. LHL should therefore treat Teritoria as a continuation/repositioning of an existing community, not as a completely new 2023 invention.

Earlier Brand Genealogy

The historical lineage also includes Châteaux & Hôtels Collection before the Les Collectionneurs identity. The precise dates and corporate transitions should be treated carefully when building a longer institutional chronology.

Alain Ducasse

Alain Ducasse is the current Brand President of Teritoria. His role gives the community a strong culinary-authority layer, but the member houses remain independently operated.

430+ Addresses

Current Teritoria and Ducasse Paris materials describe a community of more than 430 establishments across Europe.

Hotels and Restaurants

The network deliberately combines hotels, hotel-restaurants, guesthouses and standalone restaurants rather than treating food as a secondary hotel amenity.

94 Michelin-Starred Chefs

Current corporate-gift materials state that the community includes 94 Michelin-starred chefs and five Meilleurs Ouvriers de France, illustrating the importance of gastronomy to the network.

Human Scale

Teritoria repeatedly defines its preferred establishments as human-scale houses, positioned against crowds and impersonal standardisation.

Territory

The name itself foregrounds territory: members are expected to express their region through food, suppliers, architecture, landscape and host culture.

Hospitality as Encounter

The brand language prioritises encounters, tastes and atmosphere. Luxury is framed less through material excess and more through emotional value.

Mission-Led Company

Teritoria presents itself as the first independent hospitality community/company with a mission, linking commercial hospitality to formal social and environmental commitments.

Three Major Challenges

Ducasse Paris summarises the common commitments around three challenges: reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, improving working conditions and preserving biodiversity.

Clorofil

The live hotel directory uses Clorofil markers on participating establishments, making environmental commitment visible at property level.

Peace & Work

The directory also uses Peace & Work ratings, providing another visible layer around employment and workplace commitments.

Internal Hotel Keys

Teritoria has its own hotel-key classification system intended to help travellers understand different levels and styles of accommodation inside a broad portfolio.

Why Internal Classification Matters

A 430-address community ranges widely in price, service level and format. Internal keys help prevent the brand from implying that every property offers the same luxury tier.

Not All Teritoria Is LHL Luxury

This is crucial for the Library. Teritoria contains many charming, high-quality properties that do not belong in a luxury-hospitality canon. Membership alone is not sufficient for a House card.

Selective House Policy

LHL should therefore use Teritoria as a discovery source, then apply its own luxury/significance threshold before creating Houses.

France as Core

France is the dominant market. The live directory shows a deep spread across Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Normandy, Burgundy, Île-de-France, Brittany, Corsica and other regions.

European Reach

The live directory also includes Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and additional European markets.

La Bastide de Moustiers

La Bastide de Moustiers is a particularly strong LHL House candidate because it combines Alain Ducasse's hospitality authorship, Provençal destination identity and an upper-end room-rate profile.

Abbaye de Talloires

Abbaye de Talloires is another strong candidate: a historic Lake Annecy property with heritage architecture, destination significance and rates reaching the upper-luxury range.

Le 25bis by Leclerc Briant

Le 25bis in Épernay combines Champagne-house heritage, a tiny scale and destination luxury, making it a useful House candidate.

Villa Tri Men

Villa Tri Men in Brittany represents refined coastal regional hospitality and deserves House review.

Corsica

Le Roc e Fiori Hôtel in Porto-Vecchio is a candidate for the Corsican regional-luxury layer.

Champagne

Hôtel Margaux and Le 25bis demonstrate Teritoria's usefulness for identifying small luxury properties embedded in wine destinations.

Normandy

Les Sources du Val is a small, high-rate rural property and a candidate for the quiet-luxury / countryside House layer.

French Riviera

Hôtel Casarose at Mandelieu-la-Napoule is worth House review, though LHL should evaluate whether its positioning reaches the Library threshold.

Historic Châteaux

Château de Boisgelin and Château du Theil illustrate the heritage-house side of the community. Their inclusion in Houses should depend on historical significance and luxury level, not castle nomenclature alone.

Switzerland

The Teritoria hotel directory also surfaces Swiss properties, including Guarda Golf Hotel & Residences and Romantik Hotel Chateau Salavaux. Guarda Golf is already significant enough for LHL regardless of Teritoria membership.

Italy

La Zagara - Casa Mariantonia in Anacapri is a useful Italian candidate because Capri/Anacapri is a core luxury destination, though the individual House threshold still requires editorial judgment.

Restaurants as Satellites

The Michelin-heavy restaurant side of Teritoria should feed LHL Satellites rather than Houses. High-significance independent tables can be evaluated separately.

Teritoria Versus Swiss Deluxe Hotels

Swiss Deluxe Hotels is a national association of Swiss five-star luxury hotels. Teritoria is a broader Europe-facing community spanning hotels and restaurants across multiple levels.

Versus Relais & Châteaux

Relais & Châteaux is more tightly associated with the upper luxury/gastronomic tier and direct Maison membership. Teritoria has a wider accessibility spectrum and a stronger contemporary mission-company framing.

Versus Les Collectionneurs

Les Collectionneurs is not a separate current parallel entity for LHL purposes; it is the immediate predecessor identity in the same institutional story.

Versus Châteaux & Hôtels Collection

Châteaux & Hôtels Collection belongs in the historical genealogy. It should be mentioned as predecessor branding rather than created automatically as another active association record.

The Ducasse Connection

Teritoria also connects directly to LHL-P-273 Alain Ducasse. The People card should carry Teritoria as an institutional hospitality anchor distinct from his restaurant empire.

Brand President Versus Founder

Ducasse should not be described as founder of the 1975 community. His current presidency and role in the modern identity must remain distinct from original founding authorship.

House Discovery Engine

For LHL, Teritoria is most valuable as a discovery engine for small independent houses that global luxury-chain databases often miss.

Why We Should Not Import 430 Addresses

Automatic ingestion would dilute the Library. Many Teritoria establishments are excellent regional hospitality but below LHL's luxury or historical-significance threshold.

Recommended Screening

Candidate Houses should pass at least one strong test: exceptional luxury positioning; major historical/architectural significance; important owner/chef authorship; iconic destination role; or unusually influential hospitality concept.

Initial Houses Worklist

The separate worklist created with this master contains a first screened set of 14 House candidates rather than the entire Teritoria membership.

What It Changed

TERITORIA REFRAMED A LONG-RUNNING INDEPENDENT HOTEL-AND-RESTAURANT COMMUNITY AROUND TERRITORY, HUMAN-SCALE HOSPITALITY AND MEASURABLE RESPONSIBILITY — MAKING LOCAL ROOTEDNESS AND SUSTAINABILITY PART OF THE COLLECTION'S COMMERCIAL IDENTITY.

Hospitality Lesson

A regional house can compete through specificity rather than scale. Local food, human hosting and a strong relationship to place can create value that a standardised hotel cannot easily reproduce.

Strategic Lesson

For LHL, broad curated communities should be used as research maps, not imported wholesale. The association finds candidates; the Library applies the canon.

LHL Connections

Cross-reference LHL-P-273 Alain Ducasse as Brand President. Feed luxury-significant hotels into Houses and major Michelin/culinary members into Satellites. Preserve the historical names Les Collectionneurs and Châteaux & Hôtels Collection in the timeline.

Timeline

1975 · official Teritoria materials date the community's origins to this year. Later decades · the network develops through earlier identities including Châteaux & Hôtels Collection. Les Collectionneurs becomes the immediate predecessor identity. 2023-2024 · the community enters a new chapter as Teritoria under Brand President Alain Ducasse, foregrounding mission-led hospitality and sustainability. 2026 · network counts 430+ European hotels and restaurants.

Story Bank - The Collection Changes Its Name, Not Its Memory

Teritoria presents itself as a new chapter, not a blank page. The value of the rebrand lies in attaching a contemporary mission to a community whose roots reach back to 1975.

Story Bank - A Luxury Library Should Say No

A directory of 430 charming addresses is useful precisely because LHL should not copy it. The editorial act is selection: identify the few houses whose luxury, history or authorship gives them significance beyond membership.

Conclusion

Teritoria is best understood as a France-origin European hospitality community linking independent hotels and restaurants through terroir, human-scale hosting and responsible tourism. For LHL its greatest value is both institutional history and the discovery of overlooked regional Houses.

Editorial Note

No registry number is assigned. Current 430+ scale, Michelin-chef count and country footprint are time-sensitive. The initial Houses worklist is deliberately selective and is not presented as a definitive list of all luxury-grade Teritoria members; further screening of the live directory can expand it. ## Sources & Further Reading
