Pontiac Land Group

Pontiac Land Group is a privately held Singapore property company that builds and owns hotels as well as offices, shops and residences. Its own site describes "our humble beginnings as a textile trading company, founded by Henry Kwee more than 60 years ago". Wikipedia records Henry Kwee Hian Liong as a Chinese-Indonesian textile trader from Fuqing in Fujian who moved to Singapore in 1958, founded Kwee Inc. in 1959 and the group in 1961, and died in 1988. The owning family is held in this register as LHL-P-082. [1,3]

Landlord To Other Flags

Much of the group's hospitality is owned rather than run. Its site lists The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, Conrad Singapore Orchard, Conrad Singapore Marina Bay, Capella Singapore, Capella Sydney, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands and The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. Millenia Singapore groups the Ritz-Carlton with Millenia Tower and Millenia Walk; Centennial Tower and Camden Medical Centre complete the Singapore holdings named. Capella Sydney opened in March 2023 in a former Department of Education building. Outside hospitality, AP reported in June 2018 that the group, with Hines, had secured $860 million in financing for a tower on West 53rd Street in New York, beside the Museum of Modern Art. Capella And Patina

In October 2017 Hotels magazine reported that Horst Schulze, who founded Capella Hotel Group in 2002, had sold it to the Kwee family, adding that the deal was "between Schulze and the Kwee family members, not Pontiac Land". Tatler Asia states that "In 2017, the group acquired the leading hospitality management company Capella Hotel Group as a wholly owned subsidiary." Fortune, in May 2026, says Schulze "sold the company in 2017 to Singapore's Kwee family" and that Capella launched Patina as "a sister lifestyle brand" in 2020, its first house in the Maldives. The register holds both brands in their own right: LHL-016 Capella Hotels and Resorts and LHL-105 Patina Hotels & Resorts. [4,5,7,8]

The Board Passes Outside The Family

Wikipedia records that in May 2024 the four second-generation brothers — Kwee Liong Keng, Kwee Liong Tek, Kwee Liong Seen and Kwee Liong Phing — moved from director to advisory roles; that third-generation members Melissa Kwee, Kwee Ker-Wei, Philip Kwee and Kwee Ker Fong took board responsibilities; and that Peter Ong was appointed independent chairman, with Moses Lee and Andrew Ang as independent directors. Tatler Asia describes the company as "led by Chairman Peter Ong, the company's first independent chairman and former Head of Civil Service", and lists Kwee Liong Tek as "Chairman emeritus". Ong was Head of the Civil Service from 2010 to 2017. [1,4,9]

Editorial note — ⚑ Three readings of Capella's ownership stand, and the register does not choose between them. Hotels magazine says the 2017 purchase was made by Kwee family members, not by Pontiac Land; Tatler Asia says the group acquired Capella as a wholly owned subsidiary; Pontiac Land's own site says "In 2006, Pontiac Land co-founded Capella Hotel Group in Asia", which sits beside Hotels magazine's 2002 founding by Schulze. Calling Pontiac the owner of Capella and Patina is therefore the register's reading. The May 2024 board change rests on Wikipedia and Tatler Asia; no company announcement was read. The group publishes no revenue, and none is recorded here. Wikipedia reports a Forbes family net worth of $7.3 billion in September 2025; AP cited $5.5 billion in 2018. The Lands by Capella in Sydney is slated to open progressively in 2026 and is not recorded as open.
