1 · POSITION
In December 2015 Garuda Indonesia appointed the transport design studio JPA Design to create its new aircraft cabin interiors. The scope covered new colours, materials and finishes for seats, carpets, curtains, lavatories, bulkheads and other cabin monuments. New economy and business class interiors were to be made for fifty Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with retrofit interiors for twelve long-haul A330-300s. The cabin was approached first as a set of surfaces. [1]
2 · THE SHELL CHOSEN FOR THE WIDEBODY
A few weeks later, in January 2016, Garuda’s selection of B/E Super Diamond outward-facing herringbone seats was reported, the seats to be installed on an A330-300 fresh from the factory. The airline had until then used B/E Aerospace MiniPod angled lie-flat seats on that fleet, arranged two-two-two across the A330 frame. Moving to a herringbone shell changes what a business passenger sits inside, not only how far the seat tilts. [2]
3 · THE CABIN AS FOUND IN SERVICE
A 2023 account of an A330 flight describes the main cabin arranged two-four-two, with thirty-three inches of pitch on an internationally configured aeroplane. The white-walled cabin was broken up by brownish seat colours and pops of aqua blue on the headrests. The seatback system was controlled by touchscreen or tethered remote, with plentiful regional titles and little Western content. A meal service was offered thirty minutes after departure, a choice between chicken or vegetarian dishes. [3]
4 · A SECOND LIBRARY CARRIED ABOARD
In April 2026, under a three-year agreement, Moment deployed sixty-four Flymingo Box units across fifteen selected aircraft: the Boeing 737-800 NG, Boeing 737-8 and Airbus A330-900 Neo. Each box is designed with a battery life of twelve to fourteen hours and accommodates up to a hundred devices at once. Content comes from Anuvu and includes a dedicated collection of Indonesian films, the whole library refreshed every two months. It also carries e-reading materials and vertical dramas absent from the seatback system. [4]
5 · ⚑ CANDOUR
⚑ Garuda’s own website returned only its homepage on every cabin path attempted, so this entry does not rest on the airline’s description of its own product. The 2015 design appointment is an announcement; no source fetched here shows those interiors installed, and the fifty-aircraft figure belongs to that date. The 2016 seat selection is a trade report in which Garuda is not quoted. The 2023 description is one writer’s account of one flight, and first class could not be established. [1–4]
