Elewana Collection is Minor Hotels' East African luxury safari and coastal collection, operating boutique lodges, tented camps and hotels across Kenya and Tanzania. The current official portfolio contains 16 properties. Elewana combines classic East African safari hospitality with conservation, community programmes and a sophisticated circuit architecture that allows guests to move among ecosystems by private aircraft.
The Brand
Elewana means 'harmony' or 'understanding' in Kiswahili. The name captures the stated balance of luxury and adventure, conservation and community. Today Elewana operates inside the global Minor Hotels platform, with international distribution and Minor DISCOVERY while retaining a highly regional East African identity.
Minor Hotels
Minor Hotels currently places Elewana in its luxury range alongside Anantara and describes it as blending luxury, adventure and eco-tourism. This corporate ownership differentiates Elewana from founder-led independents such as African Bush Camps and Volcanoes Safaris.
Current Portfolio
The official portfolio contains nine Kenyan properties and seven Tanzania / Zanzibar properties. Kenya includes Elephant Pepper Camp, Elsa's Kopje, Kifaru House, Lewa Safari Camp, three Loisaba properties, Sand River and Tortilis Camp. Tanzania includes Arusha Coffee Lodge, Kilindi Zanzibar, Migration Camp, Pioneer Camp, Tarangire Treetops, The Manor and Serengeti Explorer.
Why The Count is 16
Elewana and Minor Hotels currently publish a 16-property master portfolio. LHL uses that official count rather than constructing an independent total from openings, seasonal operations and companion camps.
Explorer by Elewana
Explorer by Elewana launched as a new upscale safari tier designed to fill the space between budget safari accommodation and full luxury. Serengeti Explorer opened in January 2025 as the first lodge, with Ngorongoro Explorer announced as the second.
2026 Development
In 2026 Elewana opened Little Elephant Pepper Camp in Mara North and completed a major refurbishment of Lewa Safari Camp. The development strategy combines selective expansion with reinvestment in established icons.
Skysafari
SkySafari is one of Elewana's strongest differentiators. Executive-class Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft connect sequenced lodge circuits, reducing road time and commercial-airport friction. Current programmes cover Kenya, Tanzania and combined East Africa.
Circuits as Product
Elewana does not leave multi-property logistics entirely to the traveller. Aircraft, transfers, sequencing and camp combinations are packaged into a coherent journey. The itinerary itself becomes part of the hospitality product.
Conservancies
Several Kenyan properties sit within or alongside major conservancies including Lewa, Loisaba and Mara North. These models support wildlife corridors, lower-density tourism, community land income and activities beyond conventional national-park rules.
Land & Life Foundation
Land & Life Foundation is Elewana's charitable face, focused on conservation, education and health. It creates a structure through which safari tourism can support projects beyond individual lodge boundaries.
Shanga
Shanga is a social enterprise supporting people with disabilities through craft production, including objects made from recycled materials. It adds an inclusion and employment dimension distinct from wildlife conservation.
Carbon And Flights
Private aviation is central to SkySafari and creates an environmental tension. Elewana states that SkySafari flight emissions, road transfers and operational energy are offset through Carbon Tanzania. Offsetting does not remove emissions but acknowledges the contradiction.
East African Hospitality
Elewana identifies warm and genuine East African hospitality as a brand characteristic. The best properties rely on continuity of guides, lodge teams and hosts rather than ceremonial grand-hotel service.
Architecture
There is no universal Elewana design template. Tented camps, treehouse forms, manor architecture, coffee-estate buildings and beach pavilions respond to different landscapes. Destination access and service create more coherence than identical guestrooms.
Food
Recent renovations show increased attention to culinary identity. Elephant Pepper introduced a fire-cooking concept, while Lewa Safari Camp reopened in 2026 with a refreshed culinary direction. Kitchen gardens strengthen the connection between food and place.
Family
Elewana has expanded family experiences across the collection. Strong safari family programming uses wildlife, ecology and local culture as educational material rather than creating a separate resort-style children's universe.
Elsa's Kopje
Elsa's Kopje is built into Mughwango Hill above Meru National Park and connects hospitality with the Born Free story of Elsa the lioness and the conservation legacy of George and Joy Adamson.
Lewa Safari Camp
Lewa Safari Camp places Elewana within one of Kenya's most important rhino and community-conservation landscapes. Its 2026 refurbishment reinforces the strategy of renewing existing safari icons.
Loisaba
Loisaba Tented Camp, Lodo Springs and Star Beds create a three-property ecosystem in the Loisaba Conservancy. The Star Beds are especially distinctive: open-air elevated beds make the night sky and landscape the principal room design.
Elephant Pepper
Elephant Pepper Camp is a small Mara North tented camp, refurbished in 2025 and complemented by Little Elephant Pepper Camp in 2026.
Tarangire Treetops
Tarangire Treetops is one of the collection's most recognisable Tanzania properties, using elevated rooms and a baobab-rich landscape to create a strong architectural identity.
The Manor
The Manor at Ngorongoro is deliberately different: Cape Dutch-inspired manor hospitality on a coffee estate near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Kilindi Zanzibar
Kilindi Zanzibar provides a coastal counterpoint to the safari circuit, combining private pavilion architecture and Indian Ocean resort hospitality.
2025-2026 Refurbishments
Elsa's Kopje and Elephant Pepper Camp received significant upgrades in 2025, while Lewa Safari Camp completed a major refurbishment in 2026. The cycle shows a willingness to invest in mature assets rather than rely only on new openings.
Return Guests
Elewana reported a 133% increase in return guests in July 2026 and publishes a return-guest offer. Repeat visitation is becoming an explicit commercial layer within a category often treated as once-in-a-lifetime travel.
Loyalty
Elewana sits within Minor Hotels' unified Minor DISCOVERY programme. This gives the safari collection a global loyalty layer unusual among independent East African lodge groups.
Who it is Not For
Elewana is not one homogeneous ultra-luxury product. Design, camp scale and price vary, and Explorer deliberately adds a more moderate upscale tier. Guests should evaluate individual properties rather than assume identical luxury intensity.
Competitive Landscape
African Bush Camps is smaller and founder-led in Southern Africa; Volcanoes Safaris is a Great Lakes great-ape specialist; Wilderness and andBeyond have broader African scale; Singita is more consistently ultra-luxury. Elewana differentiates through East African concentration, conservancy depth, SkySafari circuits and Minor Hotels infrastructure.
Booking With LVXVRY
Elewana participates in Minor Hotels distribution and Minor DISCOVERY. LVXVRY should verify current trade or preferred terms, lodge availability, park and conservancy fees, transfers and flight components. Published rates can be Full Board, Game Package or All-Inclusive, so inclusions must be confirmed by property and itinerary.
