1 · POSITION
Copa Airlines opened a business cabin named Dreams on 1 June 2021. Trade reporting describes sixteen lie-flat seats carried on the Boeing 737 MAX 9, each with a sixteen-inch remote-controlled touchscreen, power outlets and storage for personal items. The cabin was placed on four routes out of Panama: Montevideo, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Los Angeles. A narrow-body aircraft was given a front cabin organised around lying down. [1, 2]
2 · A SECOND GRADE AHEAD OF ECONOMY
The same launch created an intermediate space. Economy Extra holds 24 seats at the front of the economy cabin and sells additional legroom, each with an individual ten-inch touchscreen and AC and USB power. All passengers may use the wireless Copa Showpass system on their own devices. The front of the aircraft was divided into three conditions rather than two, with the screen the common element across all of them. [1, 2]
3 · A LOUNGE BUILT AS A HACIENDA
A Copa Club was reported open in the new Terminal 2 at Tocumen in June 2022, at 1,935 square metres with a maximum capacity of 420 passengers. Its design is drawn from the Latin American hacienda, and an area called La Placita reproduces the interior patios of such houses. There are showers, a business centre with quiet workstations and phone booths, bars, a buffet and a terrace over the terminal. Seating areas are furnished with soft lighting and leather armchairs. [3]
4 · WHAT THE AIRLINE SAYS IT SELLS
Copa’s own help pages present the business cabin as an upgrade as much as a purchase. The airline states that it offers Business Class service on most of its flights, and that any flight carrying that service is eligible for an upgrade, subject to availability. It also warns that not all amenities will be available on all aircraft models of its fleet. The front cabin is described as a variable condition rather than one fixed product. [4]
5 · ⚑ CANDOUR
⚑ The two launch reports do not agree on the seat: one calls the sixteen places lie-flat, the other reclining sleeper seats, and this entry settles neither. The lounge dimensions and capacity are a trade report’s figures, not the airline’s own. Copa’s cabin and lounge pages could not be fetched, so the hard product above rests on reporting of June 2021 and on a help page that itself states amenities vary by aircraft. Nothing here establishes what is installed across the fleet now. [1–4]
