Avianca

Avianca traces its ancestry to SCADTA, founded in Barranquilla in 1919. Its own historical timeline places the combination of SCADTA and SACO, and the emergence of Avianca, in 1940. The distinction matters: a long institutional lineage is more informative than treating today's name as though it had accompanied every stage of the enterprise. [1]

1 · POSITION

Avianca traces its ancestry to SCADTA, founded in Barranquilla in 1919. Its own historical timeline places the combination of SCADTA and SACO, and the emergence of Avianca, in 1940. The distinction matters: a long institutional lineage is more informative than treating today's name as though it had accompanied every stage of the enterprise. [1]

2 · COLOMBIA AT THE TABLE

In April 2024, Avianca presented Insignia as its Business Class experience on Boeing 787 services between Europe and the Americas. The food programme included dishes developed with Bogotá chef Álvaro Clavijo for departures from Bogotá to Europe. A named cook and a defined departure point make the culinary connection to Colombia more precise than a general claim of national flavour. [2]

3 · A POUCH WITH AUTHORSHIP

The same announcement introduced amenity bags developed with Mola Sasa in collaboration with the Gunadule community, using fabric made from recycled PET bottles. Loto del Sur supplied the skincare products. These partnerships brought Colombian design and personal-care brands into objects passengers could handle and take away, extending the identity beyond the meal and the aircraft's decoration. [2]

4 · ONE NAME, DIFFERENT PROVISIONS

Avianca's meal guidance separates Europe services from flights within the Americas, and Business from Economy. On Europe routes, Economy meals are included across fares; on many Americas services, Economy food is purchased separately. This makes the ticket and route essential to understanding the welcome. The premium programme does not describe every seat bearing the airline's name. [3]

5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ The 1919 date denotes ancestry, not an unchanged company or product. Insignia's 2024 announcement documents a particular long-haul offer and the partners involved in creating it. It does not demonstrate consistent delivery on every flight, or justify extending its flat beds, menus and amenity bags to Avianca's wider operation. [1–3]
