1 · POSITION
Asiana sells one business class but describes three different rooms. Its service page sets out a Business Suite on the A380, a Business Smartium cabin in a staggered layout, and a business seat on the A321neo it calls nearly flat. Only the Suite is given a door. The register’s subject is therefore a class whose hospitality depends on which aircraft is rostered, and which the airline itself names in three parts. [1]
2 · THE SUITE IS CLAIMED AS A NATIONAL FIRST
The airline writes that privacy in the Suite is maximised with the first Two-Door in Korea, a claim reported here as its own. Each place carries a 32in screen with a free audio and video on demand system and an additional seat for a companion to share meals and conversation. Bedding sets of duck-down are listed. The Suite is the only part of the class described with a door that closes. [1]
3 · THE SMARTIUM NAME CROSSED THE CABINS
Business Smartium is given as twenty-four seats in what the airline calls the first staggered layout in Korea, each with its own entrance to the aisle, and a Bar and Lounge is provided. A trade report records the name OZ Quadra Smartium, its fitting to the B777-200ER and a cabin reduced from thirty-two passengers to twenty-four. On 6 March 2017 the same title reported Economy Smartium, thirty-six seats at 36in of pitch, from 15 May 2017. [1, 2, 3]
4 · THE TABLE IS SET TWICE
Meals are offered as Korean and Western, and a Korean Royal Cuisine pre-order lists braised short ribs, abalone samhapjjim, bibimbap and spicy rockfish soup among its dishes. Wines are credited to sommelier selection. On routes to the United States, Europe and Australia a Traveler’s Kit carries a bedding set, cosmetics and amenities. Long-haul Economy Smartium passengers were additionally given the business-class lounge at Incheon. [1, 3]
5 · ⚑ CANDOUR
⚑ No fetched page dates the Business Suite or Business Smartium; only the 2017 economy announcement carries dates, and it concerns a legroom product, not a bed. The two-door claim, the staggered-layout claim and the sommelier selection are the airline’s descriptions of its own service. The Suite belongs to the A380 and must not be read onto other aircraft. The register’s 1988 founding year is not established by anything fetched here. [1–3]
