AmaWaterways

AmaWaterways states that it was founded in 2002 by three families, and names Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and the late Jimmy Murphy as its co-founders. Its own timeline gives 2006 for the christening of its first custom-built ship, the AmaDagio, and 2017 for the debut of a wellness programme in Europe. The house calls the twin balcony its signature, which puts the relation between the room and the water at the centre of what it builds. [1, 3]

1 · POSITION

AmaWaterways states that it was founded in 2002 by three families, and names Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and the late Jimmy Murphy as its co-founders. Its own timeline gives 2006 for the christening of its first custom-built ship, the AmaDagio, and 2017 for the debut of a wellness programme in Europe. The house calls the twin balcony its signature, which puts the relation between the room and the water at the centre of what it builds. [1, 3]

2 · TWO BALCONIES IN ONE ROOM

The company defines the twin balcony as a French balcony together with a full-size step-out balcony in the same stateroom, and dated the arrangement to 2012 in its 2018 press material. That material gave stateroom and suite configurations ranging from 160 to 710 square feet, with marble-appointed bathrooms, multi-jet showerheads and plush linens. The AmaMagna, which the line says debuted on the Danube in 2019 at twice the width of traditional river cruise ships, added bathrooms with bathtubs. [1, 2, 3]

3 · A SECOND TABLE ON BOARD

The Chef’s Table is a separate restaurant with limited seating and required reservations, which the line says each guest may use once without charge on every sailing. Its 2018 material described the room as having launched a tasting menu of three appetisers, main courses and desserts. The company states that it was the first river cruise line inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and that all its European ships are members. [2]

4 · WHAT THE 2026 SEASON CHANGED

Cruise Industry News reported on 27 February 2026 that the onboard lounges were being renamed The Lark. An all-day menu called Savor at The Lark was introduced in them, and new Italian lunches were added to the Chef’s Table restaurants on most ships. The same report listed bathrobes and slippers, bathroom products from Marie-Stella-Maris, a daily bread programme and more than thirty included wines on each sailing. [4]

5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ The square footages, the tasting-menu description and the induction into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs come from the line’s own press material of 2018 and are its claims of that date, not current measurement. The span of 160 to 710 square feet covers a fleet and describes no single ship. The AmaMagna’s width and bathtubs are one vessel’s, and the 2026 changes were reported as reaching most ships rather than all. No crew-to-guest figure could be established from the pages fetched.
