1 · POSITION
All Nippon Airways calls its business cabin THE Room. The airline’s own description of the refitted Boeing 777-300ER states that these wide seats all come with a door and boast direct aisle access, and gives a total of 64 Business Class seats in an alternate forward- and rear-facing seating configuration. The cabins were presented on 11 July 2019, for the Tokyo/Haneda-London route starting August 2. The name states the intention before any dimension does. [2, 3]
2 · THE EIGHT-SEAT CABIN ABOVE IT
First Class is THE Suite, described by the airline as an exclusive space with only 8 seats, each of which features its own door. The personal monitor is a large 43-inch 4K monitor, which at launch the airline called the world’s first 4K personal monitor on a commercial airliner. A trade account of that launch recorded eight first class seats and 64 business class seats on the aircraft. The same device, a door, is used at two scales. [1, 3]
3 · WHO DREW IT AND WHO MADE THE BEDDING
The seat has been designed by British design agency Acumen, and ANA used designer Kengo Kuma to finish the seats with three different wood finishes. The airline said it took five years of design development. Bedding was described as new bespoke seat mattresses and bedding, tailor-made in partnership with Nishikawa, and ANA’s own page credits Nishikawa for the seat cushion. Architecture, textiles and seat engineering are named as separate contributions. [2, 3]
4 · THE SAME IDEA ON A SMALLER AIRCRAFT
In June 2025 ANA announced THE Room FX, developed with Safran Seats and the British design company Acumen for the Boeing 787-9, with a privacy door at every seat. Safran’s chief executive described the launch as deepening a longstanding partnership with ANA. The airline said that beginning in 2026 it would gradually introduce THE Room FX private seats on major long-haul international routes. The enclosed room is being carried from a large twin-aisle aircraft to a smaller one. [4]
5 · ⚑ CANDOUR
⚑ The door and the 64-seat count belong to the refitted Boeing 777-300ER and not to the whole fleet. ANA’s own page heads the section 212 seats while also giving 64 Business Class seats, and does not reconcile the two; both figures are recorded here. The world’s first 4K monitor and the world’s largest seat in its class are claims made at launch. THE Room FX was announced, not yet flown, in the source used. The register’s 1952 founding year is not established by these pages. [1–4]
