Alitalia — ITA Airways

The passage from Alitalia to ITA Airways is a story of succession with a deliberate institutional break. ITA began flying on 15 October 2021. Before that launch, the European Commission had concluded that the new carrier was economically discontinuous with Alitalia. A shared national role therefore cannot be read as evidence that the two names describe one unchanged company. [1, 2]

2 · THE PASSENGER RELATIONSHIP BREAKS TOO

The Commission's 2021 account addressed more than aircraft and finances. It specified that ITA would not simply take over Alitalia's prepaid tickets or acquire its MilleMiglia programme through the proposed sale. For hospitality, those distinctions are significant: a familiar national aviation identity did not automatically preserve the individual guest's earlier booking or accumulated relationship with the former airline. 3 · ITALIAN AUTHORSHIP MADE VISIBLE

In April 2023, ITA presented A320neo interiors by Walter De Silva alongside uniforms developed with Brunello Cucinelli's stylistic advice. The same event introduced its Hangar Lounge at Rome Fiumicino. These were tangible ways of giving the new carrier a recognisable character across the people, rooms and aircraft encountered during a journey. [3]

4 · THE ROOM AND ITS EQUIPMENT

Safran's 2022 announcement identified its role supplying seats and galley equipment for ITA's new aircraft. The detail helps distinguish interior authorship from manufacture. A designer's overall concept requires engineered seats and working service equipment before it can become a usable cabin; the names attached to the finished experience represent different contributions. 5 · ⚑ CANDOUR

⚑ Economic discontinuity is the Commission's specific finding, not a claim that ITA inherited no assets or personnel. The paired title records a historical transition and should not imply one continuous service record. Likewise, individual cabin and uniform announcements describe defined stages of ITA's development, rather than proof that national style alone guarantees the quality of a flight. [1–4]
